The Itsy Bitsy Spider

Itsy Bitsy Spider was our first Iza Trapani book. Four years later, we have a great collection of books written by Mrs. Trapani and we love them all. Itsy Bitsy is a little bit different than the others, as the words and vocabulary are more simplistic and appeal to the younger toddler. This book was a favorite for both our girls when they were about 15 months to 24 months. They were greatly amused that the cute little spider was so busy. Our family enjoys reading and singing all of Mrs. Trapani's books. Some of her books flow a little better than others but the illustrations are beautiful in all of them. Itsy Bitsy has always been my husband's favorite but I like Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. Our 5 year old will argue that Jingle Bells is the best and our 2 year old flip flops between I'm a Little Teapot and Shoo Fly as her favorites.

This was the 1st book my son responded to. The pictures are so beautiful, colorful, yet un cluttered. I am a book lover and was anxious to read to him in those 1st months, we would rock in the rocking chair and "sing" this book before his afternoon nap every day. He is now 12 months and prefers books to toys.

ISBN 1879085771 [[ASIN:1879085771 The Itsy Bitsy Spider (Nursery Rhyme)]] - If you're foolish enough to take on generations-old childrens' songs, you'd better do a very good job or expect to be tarred and feathered! I was, honestly, all set to hate this book... but Trapani did a fantastic job.

You know the story, you don't really need a recap. Spider, spout, rain, etc. Trapani, however, has added 5 new verses, giving our spider friend several new things to climb and obstacles to overcome. A fun way to add new life to a song you're likely to sing a million times before you're done!

I was unimpressed by the illustrations at first. They're nice, pleasant, okay... but then, I tilted the book and got a very happy surprise. In each illustration, there are areas that have a high gloss, making them appear to shine. Not the entire image, which would be overkill, but specific things. For example, when the rain washes the spider out, only the spider and some of the water has the gloss. It's a very minor but attractive little detail that transforms the images by giving them a little something extra. The music on the last page is another detail I really liked. Kudos to Trapani, may I stumble upon more of her work!

ISBN 1580890148 [[ASIN:1580890148 The Itsy Bitsy Spider (Board Book)]] - I hadn't anticipated re-visiting this review but came across the board book edition today and felt compelled to add these couple notes: The board book lacks the glossy highlights in the illustrations, but does make up for it in another way. Rather than have the additional verses all tucked away in the back, they are all part of the text. This makes the book (therefore, the reading of the book by Mom or Dad) a bit longer and certainly that makes it more enjoyable! Even without the highlights, budding readers will love the illustrations, and the thicker pages make page-turning a little easier for small fingers. I stand by Kudos to Trapani, 100%!

I love this book! This my 6 month old son's favorite song, it makes him giggle and laugh every time. It is basically a continuation of the spiders story, and it is great to have a longer version to sing to him instead of the same old refrain over and over. Cute illistrations.

I didn’t know they had written any other verses until I read this book so that was exciting but the artwork is just beautiful. I love it!!

Iza Trapani's art in this book is lovely.
Every page is gorgeous and with a spider who has a lot of character.

I love this book! I bought this book to read to my son. It was in great condition until the usps bent it to fit inside the mailbox!! But other than that, it’s a great buy.

Lovely book! Loved the illustrations and how the first verse was expanded to create a very interesting story with a surprise ending. There were lots of giggles when I read this to my classes!
