Description

"A French import introduces toddlers to the seven seas. The deep blue sea and the creatures that call it home are the focus of this large touch-and-feel book. Little ones will learn about sharks, octopuses, manta rays, and all sorts of other ocean dwellers. The illustrations are serviceable though bland; Choux opts for representational accuracy rather than creative license in his depictions. This is a book that'll be particularly loved by aspiring marine biologists, filled with facts and detail. The textures (a dolphin's "soft, flexible skin"; a sea turtle's "hard shell") will attract younger readers, but those just about ready for their first long picture books will get maximum value out of this read due to the book's level of detail. Little readers uninterested in the difference between clownfish and lionfish might fare better with companion title Farm, by Xavier Deneux. That title covers the barnyard in a similar fashion but has simpler text to accompany the engaging textures. A decent introduction to the undersea world. (Board book. 2-4)" - Kirkus Reviews Born in Nancy, France, Nathalie Choux moved to Paris to pursue a course in Applied and Decorative Arts. Her work has appeared in advertising, newspapers, and dozens of children's books.

so much to see!

I was so impressed with this book for my 18 month old! Some touch and feel books have 2 or 3 pages with items that have different textures, this book has textures and flaps on every page. Very pleased and will definitely buy a book from this company again!

So cute and pretty informative!

This book is adorable! I was actually surprised how informative it is. My little guy is only 7 months right now, but I can't wait until he can start to understand what's going on in these pages. I primarily bought this for the touch and feel aspect, but am so happy with how this book will age with him. He likes touching the smooth whale and the slipper dolphin. The sandpaper shark is also fun. So far, all of the pages have stood up to him dropping it and drooling on it. As a once-budding marine biologist, books like this ignited my fire for marine knowledge, so I hope this helps my little guy do the same. So fun and cute, I would love to buy more books like this.

Great content, pages not hard enough

Great book! Only not sturdy enough for 18 months old little hands (hens de 4 stars). It's very colorful, with a good variety of species and cool textures. My son loves it! Would recommend (if you don't mind the bending of the pages and tearing).

Great book. Beautiful pictures, great touch experience

This is the most wonderful book I’ve seen. I love the octopus page. Okay mama is more excited about it then my baby. I played more with the octopus page then my baby. 😂
If you buy the book for a baby you need to know that they are able to rip the pages and the little flip pages inside the book. So you need to be careful if it’s important to you that the book stays intact.

The pictures are beautiful and the kids can learn a lot with this book. The textures and materials are really nice. My baby girl loves to touch all the different materials.

Great illustrations, content and the texture

Our toddler is really enjoying this book. Just enough text on each page to educate the baby and keep her interest. The touch and feel aspect is very unique and different on each page

Don't hesitate

My twin grandsons LOVE this book. They are only six months old and probably have nearly 50 books and this is a definite favorite. It has a small amount of easily understood facts plus textures to feel on every page. Reading this book has a calming effect...a real winner! I just ordered two more about dinosaurs and safari animals hope they are as good.

sturdy, colorful, but not much interesting to touch and feel

A nice-looking book with colorful pictures and lots of fun facts, but I was disappointed that the touch-and-feel areas were not especially interesting. Still, I'm sure my great-granddaughter will enjoy it

Coming from a marine biologist, definitely recommend!

Pros: Sturdy pages made to withstand toddler energy, touchable textures on almost every page, colorful and fun illustrations, great science facts

Cons: Some pages have peek-a-boo boxes that toddlers may tear, it uses the terms “starfish” and “jellyfish” instead of sea star and sea jelly

Overall: A must-buy for children ages 3-5, or even a 2-year-old who really enjoys books.
