Description

“Great fun! Suzanne Kelman’s humor makes you want to call some girlfriends and plan to get together. Friendship is a major theme in this story and I’m all about that! The premise is certainly not to be taken seriously…even more reason to laugh…of course all writers want to have their work recognized! Light, quirky, and heartwarming. I’m looking forward to Book Two!” ―Patricia Sands, bestselling author of the Love in Provence series “A quirky and fun read. Highly recommended.” ―Christine Nolfi, bestselling author of the Sweet Lake Novels “I didn’t get a chance to review this book right after I finished, and I’m kind of glad it worked out that way. Because I realized―I haven't been able to get this book out of my mind! The author did a great job of creating memorable and zany characters, and putting them on a road trip adventure that was one wild ride. But, what was great is that it was still realistic. I appreciate when authors take you just to the edge of what is possible without going over the top. I look forward to future books in this series.” ―Camille di Maio, bestselling author of The Memory of Us “A wonderful heartwarming story filled with love and laughter.” ―Victoria Connelly, bestselling author of The Rose Girls “Suzanne Kelman has an effortless knack for making you laugh out loud. This is hugely entertaining, feel-good fiction for a rainy day or an afternoon at the beach. Be prepared to be unable to stop smiling.” ―Carol Mason, Amazon Charts bestselling author of After You Left Suzanne Kelman is the author of the Southlea Bay series and an award-winning screenwriter. Born in Scotland and raised in the United Kingdom, she now lives in the United States in her own version of Southlea Bay, Washington, with her husband, Matthew; her son, Christopher; and a menagerie of rescued animals. She enjoys tap dancing, theater, and high teas, and she can sing the first verse of “Puff, the Magic Dragon” backward.

Features & Highlights

  • Librarian Janet Johnson is puzzled when she is invited―and practically dragged―to her first meeting of the Rejected Writers’ Book Club. This quirky group of women would much rather celebrate one another’s rejected manuscripts over cups of tea and slices of lemon cake than actually publish a book. But good friends are exactly what Janet needs after moving to the small town of Southlea Bay, Washington. Just as the ladies are about to raise a teacup to their five hundredth rejection letter, they receive bad news that could destroy one member’s reputation―and disband the group forever. To save the club, Janet joins her fellow writers on a wild road trip to San Francisco in search of the local publisher who holds the key to a long-buried secret. As they race to the finish line, they’ll face their fears―landslides, haunted houses, handsome strangers, ungrateful children―and have the time of their lives.

Childish, and not in a good way

Nothing in this book makes any sense. If at least it was funny, as promised, it could compensate for that, but it's not. skipped quite a few pages, just to get an idea how it ended.

I loved this book so much it reminded me of a twist between Shopaholic and blossom street series which are both fun filled women stories that draw you and want you to know more about the characters and places they are from and will go. I was laughing so hard in a just a few chapters i was hooked and on the adventure to get those rejection letters. I think this would make a wonderful hallmark movie and is a wonderful light read that i definitely want more from.

The Rejected Writers earned another letter for their collection from me.

While I believe the author was going for ‘quirky’ and ‘fun’, I found The Rejected Writers Bookclub to be ‘annoying’ and ‘dull’. It took me nearly a week to read this book primarily because I kept falling asleep. The only thing keeping me awake was my efforts to re-read the blurb so I could remember what the book was supposed to be about. Contrived, saccharine and never-ending, The Rejected Writers earned another letter for their collection from me.

Loved this quirky women's adventure

What a kick for senior female readers like me. And that this women's club is based on the island of which I'm a native is a welcome plus.

This novel has so much. There are women knit together by a common cause. There is the culture of a small community on Whidbey Island. There are quirky characters. There is a road trip with just about every imaginable adventure. I loved it all.

This novel is pure escape literature. The plot is unique. Women have gathered together to celebrate their rejection letters. But when one receives an acceptance letter, well, the group is determined to not break their record. A road trip to the publisher, meeting handsome and not so handsome men, getting stuck in a snow bound hunting cabin, a ghost story, a literary seminar and banquet, a daughter having twins, on and on. Just when I thought their couldn't possibly be one more adventure, there was another!

I recommend this novel to those who enjoy reading pure escape literature for older women. You'll read about women helping each other, changed relationships, old and new romance, and much more. You'll laugh and feel good. You might even learn the trick to keeping those pesky raccoons away.
