Description

From School Library Journal K-Gr 2—Silliness abounds in Shea's latest work. The narrator, a small ghost, doesn't want readers to go into the scary woods, because it is full of frightening things. He'd rather stay home and wash his sheet and eat doughnuts. He's skeptical when he hears about a cute bunny, cupcakes, and Halloween party but agrees to go into the woods to save readers from the super scary monsters. When he goes into the woods he is frightened away by the monsters, but then learns that it is just the animals in costume. He enjoys the joke, the party, and the cupcakes. The book is full of funny artwork with bright colors and comic characters. Children will get a laugh at the ghost's belly full of doughnuts. The realization that the ghost is essentially naked after taking off his sheet to wash will also amuse young readers. VERDICT A hilarious book that will keep the giggles coming, this will be a hit for Halloween read-alouds.—V. Lynn Christiansen, Wiley International Studies Magnet Elementary School, Raleigh, NC PRAISE FOR THE HAPPIEST BOOK EVER "The ever-popular Shea, creator of, among many others, the fierce Dinosaur vs. series, goes for smiles with a barrage of feel-good images on bright yellow backgrounds. Who can resist a dancing cake? . . . best-selling Shea is back with another jaunty picture book that is sure to be met with enthusiasm."-- Booklist Bob Shea has created many hilarious books for young people, including Crash, Splash or Moo! , the popular Dinosaur Vs. series, Unicorn Thinks He's Pretty Great , Unicorn is Maybe Not so Great After All , and the early readers featuring Ballet Cat. He has also written stories such as Who Wet My Pants? , illustrated by Zachariah OHora. He lives in Madison, Connecticut and invites you to visit him at bobshea.com. Read more

  • Reader beware! This is the scariest book ever! Or so claims its melodramatic ghost narrator. Go ahead and turn the page, but don't expect him to come
  • with
  • you.
  • Anything
  • might pop out of that black hole in the middle of the forest! What do you mean, it's just a bunny? Well, it's probably a bunny with
  • big fangs
  • ! Despite the ghost's fear-mongering, none of the animal characters seem very scary at all.... What's up with that? Many delights -- such as surprises after the page turns, a wildly over-the-top narrator, and perfect punch lines for readers to anticipate -- make this book a scream for both kids and parents.

For the sarcastic mom

Are you a sarcastic mom who reads to her children in a sarcastic tone because the stories are just so dumb? This book will work for you and your tone actually emphasizes the story and makes the kids giggle. My very visual, very distractible 5 month old girl loves the visuals and my 4 year old boy who is too busy to sit for a whole story actually requests this book as well as Bob Shea’s other work (check out the happiest book ever. Frowny frog is my jam!). I am a pretty gender neutral lady, it have noticed my daughter strong attraction to pink and glitter even with the world of toys at her fingertips. She is blowing my mind. Anyways, fun story, even some laughs from adults if in the right state of mind: great illustrations. It’s fun watching my son recreate my performance to his stuffed animals. Buy it.

Just meh.

It’s alright. I wouldn’t buy it again. I don’t feel like it has a good flow or something? I’m not sure but the dialogue, picture page, dialogue, picture page pattern bothered me. And my son didn’t care about looking at the pictures on the “creepy woods” pages so he didn’t really get much out of it

It’s an OK addition to holiday book collection

I was hoping for more of a story... the text just seemed too choppy for me to really enjoy reading with the kids. The art was really cute- I’m just bummed the story didn’t follow suit.

A bit wet...

This book looks cook but I also received a wet book. The cover had an oily looking residue on it and inside the pages were rippled. I’m going to keep it because the book seems cool - but overall not too happy about receiving a wet book.

Terrible packaging.

Got this book for a three year old birthday party. I have a copy and my girls like it. I was excited to share it with their friend but when it arrived in the box it came in appalling condition. The dust jacket was ripped and wrinkled and marked - it honestly looked like it had been ran over. It probably was.

Super fun and silly for a slightly older child.

I love reading to my infant, even if he doesn’t understand what I’m reading— he likes my voice and its inflections with my reactions while I read, and bonus points that I enjoy the story! I read this to a friend’s four-year-old recently and she got a big kick out of the inflections and the way I made the story interact with her. Her parents enjoyed the humor. I am not sure young children will get into this as much unless the reader is willing to get into it— lead them through the story a bit (might be confusing for some), and make it fun— if you exceed in this, make sure you’re up for reading it six times in a row.

Cute Book - Bad Shape

The story itself is fine, but a little weird. The ghost keeps remarking that he/she is dead. A little emo for a toddler, but the illustrations are cute. However, the condition of the book from this seller is poor. Close to an entire page (the last page with writing) is ripped out of the book.

Ok, this is the cutest book ever! My kids get bored of books after a couple of reads, but not this one. I even enjoyed it!
