Mostly Fluff

This is a pretty bad book. The best thing I can say about it is that most all skin care books seem to be pretty bad, so it doesn’t seem to be worse than the others. The book is filled with repetitive statements (the author says that one should wear sunscreen around 20 times) and information that is either obvious, “if you get a sunburn, get out of the sun,” or tangential, “people have been cleansing their skin for thousands of years and there are a lot of skin cleansers out there.” It’s the type of book where the author was likely often thinking “what else can I say to fill 300 pages?”

Additionally, the author states that people should stay away from face oils, specifically those with oily, acne prone skin. I her opinion those with oily skin are better served by oil-free products and foaming cleansers. In my experience as some one with oily skin, foam cleansers paired with a oil-free moisturizer just causes my skin to pump out more oil. Alternatively, face oils normalize my sebum production. In this case, the author seems to be putting forth conventional but inaccurate statements which makes me question the validity of the rest of the book.

There is some useful and not commonly known information in the book, but mostly it’s fluff. I wouldn’t bother reading this unless you are entirely new to skincare.
