A good reference for those interested in processing fleece from sheep to garment

Well-written and extremely detailed. I am a beginning spinner who wanted to buy a fleece, so I purchased this book and followed Smith's advice. She covers all kinds of relevant topics, from choosing a good-quality fleece, to washing it, to various processing methods (with detailed photographs of the combing/dizing/carding process) and samples of several wool types. I think the Fleece and Fiber Sourcebook (http://www.amazon.com/The-Fleece-Fiber-Sourcebook-Fibers/dp/1603427112) is a more in-depth reference of fleece and fiber types and it is one I'd definitely like to own if I were an advanced spinner, but this is a great resource for the beginner and I am extremely glad I bought it.

Worthwhile addition to your fiber library.

Beth Smith's book covers everything from purchasing a fleece to a finished product. Lots of information in a chatty yet authoritative voice, much of it an intermediate fleece-lover like me would already know, but there are quite a number of" oh wow,' moments that are worth highlighting.
Very much a spinners reference, whether you knit, crochet or weave.

Must have book for spinners!

I was given a temporary digital advance reader copy of "The Spinner's Book of Fleece" by Beth Smith through netgalley to review.

"The Spinner's Book of Fleece" is a treasure trove of information for the spinner! It describes wool working tools, how to pick the right fleece, how to deal with pests, how to know how much twist to add, and how to finish yarns. It even mentioned making thread for tatting! (As a tatter, I appreciated that!). The book also gives the characteristics of types of wool, how to work with them, and some of the breeds in that category. In the back of the book there are a glossary of terms, metric conversions, frequently used measurements, USDA Wool Specifications, Reading List, and Resources.

This is definitely a book that spinners should have on their shelves!

Wonderful Book for Fiber Artists!

This is a wonderful book for understanding spinning and wool yarn and how different sheep breeds have vastly differing types of fleece. I'm not a spinner - I knit, so I'm very interested in the final product. This book greatly increased my understanding and knowledge of wool.
