Description

"[A]n explosive combination that features the author's immense imagination. It's difficult to ground such fantastic science and weirdness in reality, but Golemon makes it look effortless... tense, terrifying - and worth the investment" ― Associated Press on Ripper “Golemon knows how to make readers turn the pages, and Primeval will only further enhance his reputation.” ― Booklist on Primeval “Fans of Clive Cussler, Verne, X-Files, and military tactical thrillers will find much to enjoy in this increasingly clever series.” ― Booklist on Leviathan David L. Golemon is the author of the Event Group Thrillers, including Event , Ancients, Leviathan and Primeval. Legend , the second book in the series, was nominated for a RITA award for paranormal fiction. Golemon learned an early love of reading from his father, who told him that the written word, unlike other forms, allows readers to use their own minds, the greatest special effects machines of all―an idea Golemon still believes. The only thing he loves more than writing is research, especially historical research, and he sees the subtext of his Event novels as being that understanding history allows us to create a better future. Golemon grew up in Chino, California, and now makes his home in New York.

Chillingly creepy

This was one of the best paranormal horror books I've ever read. It was a total page turner that kept me engrossed in each character including the Haunted House. I loved that the Author kept on track with the story and didn't mess it up with a bunch of sex and romance. I hope David L. Golemon will write a sequel to the Supernaturals to see how each one of the survivors has evolved.

Great fun

Loved this book. Great for a dark stormy night by the fire. Scares galore.

"... You, sir, are no Shirley Jackson."

At almost 490 pages, this was waaaaay toooooo long, and I gave up about half-way through. Although the haunting within the house seemed interesting and had promise, the narrative spends so much time detailing the behind-the-scenes shenanigans at the Hollywood and Corporate offices of the company planning their Halloween fright-fest in the house, and the backstory of all the members of what I assume will be the team known as The Supernaturals (including the woman possessed by a dead songwriter, huh?) that it tried my patience beyond the breaking point. There were many references to, and steals from, The Haunting of Hill House, a much better book about a haunted house. For more satisfying and less padded haunted house books, try Dorothy Macardle's The Uninvited or Michael McDowell's The Elementals.

One of the best in the genre

This is not just another haunted house story. This was the first paranormal book that I have read that flowed seamlessly. Professor Kennedy was disgraced seven years prior when he and a group of students traveled to America's "most haunted house ", Summer Place. Professor Kennedy's purpose for this expedition was to disprove paranormal activity. Unfortunately, a student of his went missing in the house. The Professor throughly believes that the house is responsible for the student's disappearance. That led to him being exiled to the perimeter of academia, and the prime suspect in his student's disappearance.
Kelly Delaphoy is a producer for a paranormal hunter tv show. Her and her team travel to Summer Place seven years after the Professor's expedition. While filming the show, strange things begin happening. Strangest of all being one of her crew members disappearing in the house. Now Kelly decides to make a live show on Halloween in Summer Place. She's convinced this show will be the highest rated show ever. The caveat being she needs Professor Kennedy's assistance. The Professor begrudgingly agrees but only if he can put together a team of his choosing, the Supernaturals.
There is plenty of paranormal activity in this book. There is also the perfectly imperfect characters. You can love or hate them, but you can identify with each one of them. Besides fighting the seen and unseen, these characters were fighting their own demons. This was a well developed, fast paced and engrossing book.

Disappointing

I thought this book was going to be awesome but, sadly, it was not. I read it and finished it hoping it would get better and to see how it ended But this is definitely a read-one-time-only book. I'm disappointed that I even spent money on this... meh.
