Simmering, tight, and mysterious!

The Therapist is an intense, nordic noir that introduces us to Sara, a young psychologist who specializes in teenage patients and is looking forward to a nice weekend alone, only to have her world turned upside down when she receives a call from her husband’s friends that he never actually turned up for their weekend away, and danger suddenly seems to be lurking around every corner inside and out of the home they shared.

The writing is tight and tense. The characters are flawed, unreliable, and insecure. And the plot using flashbacks and a back-and-forth style intertwines and unravels into a slow-burning tale of twists, turns, lies, deception, manipulation, suspicions, revelations, mayhem, familial drama, and obsession.

Overall, The Therapist is an atmospheric, sinister, satisfying debut by Flood that does a wonderful job of highlighting just how easily people can be psychologically and emotionally manipulated, and reminds us that even those we think we know so well often have darker sides they choose to hide.

pretty good

Interesting story of a therapist whose husband disappears and is murdered. told both in flashbacks and the present, it is a story of a marriage gone wrong and a possible unreliable narrator. Is she being targeted by the same killer? did she do it? is it all in her mind? both a psychological study as well as a police procedural

Absolutely Fascinating!

I picked this novel up due to the cover and was not disappointed. Absolutely loved this thriller! Sara is a troubled teen therapist married to an architect named Sigurd. When she wakes for a busy day at work she find out that her husband did not arrive at the cabin to meet his friends for a fun weekend. Strangely enough, he has left her a voicemail stating he was in fact in the cabin. Thus starts a creepy narrative between the police, Sigurd's secrets and Sara's own personal life. You won't guess what going to happen next and you won't be able to put the book down until you find out!

I cannot wait to read the next book by Helene Flood (The Lover). As a psychologist who works with trauma, she has all the experience to paint a believable and interesting story. If you like cat and mouse games, psychological thrillers, domestic thrillers, this is a great book for you!

Good story

Sara wakes to what she thinks is a normal day. She is a therapist and deals predominately with children. Her husband Sigurd is part owner of a architectural company. Sigurd kissed Sara goodbye and left for a fun guys weekend. He is to meet his two buddies Thomas and Jan Erik at Thomas' cabin. Approximately midmorning Sigurd leaves a voicemail on Sara's phone telling her he arrived safely.

Later that day Sara receives a call from Jan Erik saying Sigurd never made it to the cabin. Sara is confused. At first she thinks the guys are pulling a joke on her, but as time goes on and she does not hear back from Sigurd, she realizes that he really is missing.

"The Therapist" starts a little bit slow, but ends with a shock that I did not see coming. It is a domestic thriller with lots of secrets and big reveals that will shake the reader up. This is my first Helene Flood novel. I can't wait to read more from her. "The Therapist" will be published February 1, 2022.

Thank you NetGalley and Mobius Books for this intriguing e-book. I am honored I got to read it.
