Description

Found in the forest when she was young, Laura Thalassa was raised by fairies, kidnapped by werewolves, and given over to vampires as repayment for a hundred year debt. She's been brought back to life twice, and, with a single kiss, she woke her true love from eternal sleep. She now lives happily ever after with her undead prince in a castle in the woods.... or something like that anyway. When not writing, Laura can be found scarfing down guacamole, hoarding chocolate for the apocalypse, or curled up on the couch with a good book.

A thriller, suspense, fantasy and romance NOT to be missed.

I read The Unearthly in one day. It's a fast read, and it's wonderful. My only disappointment is that I have to wait until 2014 to see Gabrielle and Andre together again. Such excellent chemistry. They sizzle! Gabrielle's is sassy, spunky, sexy, yet refreshingly innocent at the same time. Female readers - you may be jealous - she's hot. But no worries. We're taking the ride in Gabrielle's head, first person... so instead of jealous, we're sympathetic, compatriots, on her side, and cheering her on. If she wins, WE win. The inner dialog is excellent. So sassy and irreverent. Lots of lines made me smile or laugh out loud, like her first impression of a classmate, "... most definitely prey". That might have been Gabrielle's first impression of the bitch. Yes, there are several characters you can hate in this book. Part of the fun.

The Unearthly has a strong sense of place, very descriptive, and I had no trouble imagining everything - the castle, the Isle, the dorms, the club, the tunnels, the mansion, the trip to Italy. There's a strong, coherent culture that really works, like in the Harry Potter books. Maybe that's because the author has a degree in Archaeology from Berkeley. She really made it work! The characters and pecking order among the supernatural "species" was great - the feared, the pitied, the popular, and the hated - not too different from high school culture! And what a cool class schedule, which included "Anthropology of Nocturnal Beings" among five or six other gems. How about the Seven Deadly Sins party, with wrath, gluttony, and lust, of course.

The author's pacing and drama are perfect, from the mysterious fiery opening scene, to the tremendous crescendo in the last chapter. This is a thriller, suspense, fantasy and romance, not to be missed.

A complete binge-read and I'm hooked

I knew by the third chapter I was going to finish this book in the same day I picked it up and I was right. And then excited when I saw there were four more in the series. Not sure how the next installments are, but so many questions were raised - and answered - in this first one I honestly can't wait to find out what happens to Gabrielle. Her story isn't just a story about a vampire - yes, some of the lore echoes others, and she's spunky and funny, and there's some pretty decent twists I wasn't expecting, which had me hooked. Loved it!

Great Summer Read

I bought this book on my Kindle and I'm pretty sure I got it for free, and picked it just based on the title and the cover. Not the best way to shop for books but what harm could a free book do? Turned out my instincts proved true simply because this book was awesome.

Even though it is clearly a paranormal book it had a fantasy type feel to it. A girl gets invited to study at a secluded boarding school, finds out she has a paranormal past and is herself a paranormal, and has a handsome man biding for her love.

This book proved to be a great summer read. I really can't wait to get my hands on the next book in the series. The dialog was great, the characters well developed and the plot was, well, somewhat predictable, but not in a bad way.
