Description

In their "Declaration of Independence" the authors and researchers of this guide swear their allegiance to you, the consumer. "If a restaurant serves bad food, or a gift item is overpriced, or a certain ride isn't worth the wait, we can say so, and in the process we hope to make your visit more fun, efficient, and economical." And because they've found that "spontaneity and self-discovery work about as well at Walt Disney World as they do on your tax return," The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World is packed full of essential advice for anyone braving the frontiers of the mother of all theme parks. To help you decide what's most important for you and your family to see, each attraction is described in detail and ranked for different age groups based on interviews with more than 9,000 families. The book also covers when to go, pros and cons of lodging outside "the World," hotel and restaurant ratings, field-tested itineraries, tips and warnings, planning strategies, and how to meet Disney characters. Humorous writing accompanied by cartoonist Tami Knight's satiric insights make this guide fun to read. Parks covered include The Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney's Animal Kingdom, The Disney-MGM Studios, Universal Studios Florida, Sea World, area water theme parks, and a section called "Beyond the Parks," which delves into other various Disney offerings like golf (mini and maxi), a speedway, and Discovery Island. --Kathryn True

This 700+ page book may be the Bible of Disney Tour Books!

Sehlinger's book has two major faults: 1)740+ pages and 2)Poorly updated information. However, this book has to be the Bible of all Orlando based visitors. The lodging ratings are great for non-disney visitors as well.
The unofficial guide is just that. It makes fun at the many unique things that make Disney....Disney! This book gives you very detailed attack plans for each of the theme parks at Walt Disney World. If you want to save time or money, get a copy of this massive book!

Buy It, Buy It, Buy It!

My husband and I just came back from Disney World last weekend, and this book was invaluable. We actually wound up carrying it to all three parks (MGM, Epcot, Magic Kingdom) every day. We tried a few of the strategies in the book, and we avoided lines, enjoyed the best attractions, and generally had a better time because of it. (The best tip: the "Splash Mountain" section. We had NO wait in the morning, while the afternoon line was in excess of 2 hours!) We did miss a few important tips by reading as we went along, though. A word to the wise: read as much as you can before you vacation. And say hi to Mickey!

Not much new

If you haven't purchased any of the prior years' books of the same title, this book is great. It is the Bible for all Orlando-bound travelers. We go to Disneyworld every other year and I waited until Nov. to get the 1998 version. Unfortunately, I see the exact same comments and ratings for rides and restaurants as in the 1995 version. It seems that the only new information is the description of the new attractions. It would have been nice to have the 1998 version written based upon evaluations of the last 3 years and not the early 90's (because a lot has changed).

IGNORE THE CRITICS. THIS BOOK IS INDISPENSABLE!

Twenty years ago, some friends and I visited DisneyWorld for the first time. Our experience was disasterous. We wandered around in total confusion and left the parks each day in utter exhaustion. Last June, my family and I returned - armed with Sehlinger's independent advice and counsel. Our experience this time was nothing short of perfection. Thanks to Mr. Sehlinger, we chose the perfect package, selected the ideal hotel, obtained confirmed reservations well in advance of our arrival, and developed a daily touring plan that delighted each member of the family ranging from a hyperactive 5-year-old to an over-tired spouse. With as many as 70,000 visitors per day, I pity those souls that venture into the unknown so ill-prepared especially when considering the cost of a DisneyWorld vacation. This book is worth its weight in gold!

This book is a not to be missed overview of The World.

Anything and everything on WDW Property is far better understood and appreciated after thoroughly reading The Unofficial Guide of WDW. I purchased my first book many years ago and have been purchasing the new version every single year. I pass the old copies onto friends or relatives who need to expand their knowledge or comprehension of the area. As Property expands its parameters, Bob is right there to include every single applicable aspect of any given attraction, food service, hotel or club. I heartily recommend this book, as well as the Unofficial Pocket version that should be kept handy whenever visiting or staying on Property

We went to WDW from a place far and away (took 40 hrs plane including the 4 transits!), and find the GUIDE to be very helpful. We would like to see more comparison on the RESORT HOTELS and SOME SPECIFIC POINTS for foreigner... ALL IN ALL this is very helpful GUIDE and WE ALL LOVE IT.
