Description

The Way Of The Superior Man takes the reader on a powerful journey into the heart of the contemporary masculine experience. With uncommon honesty and unparalleled insight into the deepest desires of the masculine heart, David Deida explores the most challenging and important issues in men's lives. Covering everything from work and career, to dealing with sex, women, and love, to finding purpose in an increasingly superficial and mechanical world, The Way Of The Superior Man reveals how a man can live a life of fulfillment without compromise by relaxing into the truth of his very being, discovering his deepest vision, and giving his gifts without holding anything back. What emerges is a wholly revolutionary look at what it means to be a man in today's world, as well as an astonishingly practical guidebook to living a masculine life of integrity, authenticity, and freedom. The Way Of The Superior Man is an articulate, insightful, inspiring, and invaluable contribution to today's national dialogue on the proper role of men in an egalitarian and nondiscriminatory society and within traditional and nontraditional families. -- Midwest Book Review

Superior!

Blend the poetic eloquence of Robert Bly with the passion of Sam Keen, add a dash of zest from the Sterling Men's Weekend and New Warrior Training, and you get this exquisite book for men in the 90's. Deida writes with great clarity and insight; his discussion on a man's mission and the right place for a woman in his life is something to savor and take to heart. There is much in this book that rang true in the deepest part of me--I can't recommend it too highly. Most importantly, the material in it can be applied readily to life situations---this book "grows corn". Ken Wilber called it "a guide for the non-castrated male". I agree. This is a life-affirming achievement of the highest order. Bravo!

understand whats being said.

Still reading through this, At first I noticed a lot of new agey spiritual mumbo jumbo, but if you can get past that the information is relavent. and damn! good advice. I learned why im not getting why my girl gets upset about trivial things, how her mind thinks differntly then mine. What she expects from me without having to say it.

Bought it as a gift, ended up reading it myself

He is right on when he says, basically, hug it out when a woman is feeling emotional. Try it guys, it works.

Deida is very wise and explains his unique paradigm in a very understandable manner.

This was an excellent book. Mr. Deida explains male and female energy, defines a superior man and lays out a path to become one. I must say that the words he uses are very different from the way I think and speak however, Mr. Deida carefully defines these often qualitative and intangible words and is consistent in their use. So even though at the beginning it reads a little more "touchy-feely" and sensitive than I'm used to, once you understand his intent behind the words you can relate them to yours and fully understand his paradigm of energy and the path to becoming a superior man. It is a great book, I highly recommend it. It can be read multiple times and each time you'll learn something new or interpret the same text a different way.

A Reference for Men in the 21st Century

Excellent book for any man alive today. A wonderful collection of advice from a learned man to all other men. As a graduate of the MKP group and experience with the men's groups in SoCal this book does a great job of speaking directly to men about what it means to be a man in the 21st century. With the roles of men & women blurred and often clashing leading to complications, this book is a refreshing reference with direct no BS advice for 21st century men. A good book for women who want to understand where men are coming from...

Polarizing

Generally, when engaging with the concepts of masculine and feminine, I tend to highlight the similarities as opposed to the differences. So often I see difference used to stereotype and degrade others.

But maybe there are times when the differences are worth exploring too.

For David Deida, the masculine is everything eternal, and the feminine is the ever-changing. I’ve been reading a lot of other texts that have been talking of such subjects recently [J. G. Bennett, Joseph Campbell]. I can see how this can be a useful frame some of the time.

I find Deida somewhat annoying. He read the book aloud in my audio edition, and he places emphasis on everything!

I wasn’t particularly into this book, but I can think of a handful of friends that would probably love it.
