By Far the Best of This Lot

I feel funny about giving this five stars, because the only Thor stories that fully deserve that are the Simonson, Thomas, and the surprisingly incredible Disassembled. However, both this and the J. Michael efforts are just SO close in quality that I would feel wrong to give it a simple four star.

This volume is not only far and away the best of the Aaron run it's one of the best Thor books in comics history, period. Aaron's preoccupation with the different aged Thors is what made the first two and fourth volumes kind of messy and unnecessary. I realize that some consider that element to be the best part, and more power to them. But this volume mostly eschews that, as well as his foiled aim to continue the JMS Oklahoma thing, and instead we get a terrific Malekith story that is truly as essential as the abovementioned runs. You could easily just buy this volume alone and be more than set. Highly recommended.

horrible

How bad this book is surprised me. I wasn't able to finish it because the writing is so horrible. I found out after the fact that Aaron stepped away and a new writer took over. Aaron comes back for Volume 4 which is great like usual but I regret the money I spent on this book. I recommend the other Volumes, but skip this one.
