Great book, but don’t expect it to be comprehensive

This is an excellently laid out small book. Easy to use and absorb very good info on the TMB. I only gave it 3 stars because it’s subtitle is “ everything you need to know to plan and walk it” which is definitely not true. There is a lot of detail on the trek that would have been useful to provide so readers wouldn’t have to search online for it or buy other books. I would still recommend it, but it’s subtitle would be more accurate saying “ A great place to start your planning for the worlds most famous trek”

Everything you need for TMB

We have two other TMB guides, but took this one with us on our 2019 TMB. Has all the relevant info needed on the trail along with the actual 1:25k topomaps and section profiles, along with good descriptions and great pictures. Information on essential services including lodging, camping, groceries and transportation all included, everything you need on the trail!

Excellent Resource for the Tour du Mont Blanc

This is first of The Great Treks of the Alps guidebooks by KnifeEdge Outdoor Guidbooks that I have purchased. The Walker's Haute Route and the Tour of the Ecrins National Park are the other two. Love the layout - and, it is packed with valuable information to assist in planning, packing, and being prepared. Excellent resource if considering self-guided trek or guided. Information regarding accommodations, camping options, food and facilities along the route is up to date and well organized. Excellent maps with descriptions of routes and options available. The photos are stunning throughout the book. Impressive and excellent resource for planning - OR - just for the shear enjoyment of doing the trek vicariously!! Highly recommend!! So happy I discovered this jewel!! ***** FIVE STARS*****

Must-have for TMB campers!

If you are planning to camp along the TMB you must have this book. It is the only one that provides comprehensive information regarding all camping opportunities, along with contact information, etc.. If you're not a camper still go with this book - you won't find a better one to plan your trek!

More book than map

This looks like a helpful book for those planning the Tour du Mont Blanc, but buyers should be aware that despite the claim you don’t need to carry a separate map and the statement of a 1:25000 scale, the only maps are on the roughly 5x7” pages. There is no single map that folds out to depict the entire trek (aside from an overview map on the inside cover). It’s no substitute for a large fold-out map.

Pretty Useful if You're Planning to do the Trek

Nice map on the inside of the front cover. Good photos and useful tips. Now that I see some of the ascents/descents, probably will hold off a couple years to let my wife's knees heal more after surgery.

Best TMB guide

I have all of the TMB guide books, but I’ve barely opened the others because this book has had everything I needed. The set up is really convenient for planning your route. Highly recommended.

Couldn't have done the TMB solo without it

I purchased multiple TMB books before I found this one. Thank goodness I found Andrew's book. I planned my hike with his book as my primary source. I am a 56 year young gal and this was my first trek and and read the book over and over beforehand and tore out pages to bring with me every day.

I won't take another trek unless Andrew has a guide for it. Truth.

Excellent Resource

I love the book. It’s very detailed but all pertinent information. There is an accommodations list that is better than any I have seen online. I would recommend this book to anyone hiking the Tour du Mont Blanc.
