Features & Highlights
From the authors of the “run” away success
Run Like a Mother,
a book that fans are clamoring for on how to train for a race, including practical advice on all aspects of race preparation presented with the authors’ trademark wit and empathy.
At its core,
Train Like a Mother
comprehensively covers how to train for a race, including training plans for four race distances (5K, 10K, half-marathon, and marathon) for both beginner and more experienced runners; the importance of recovery; pre- and post-race nutrition; strength training; injury prevention (and rehab); and everything busy women need to know to add racing to their multitasking schedules. It is all presented with the same wit, empathy, and tone the avid fans connect and identify with. The book is divided into 13.1 chapters—the distance of a half-marathon, the sweet spot for many mother runners—narrated by both Sarah and Dimity. Like the first book,
Train Like a Mother
chapters have plenty of sidebars, including
Practical Motherly Advice
(helpful information about training- and race-related advice),
Take It from a Mother
(advice and answers from the growing tribe of running moms), and
Racy Talk
(entertaining, race-related stories from the authors and other moms). The .1 sections are entertaining "commercial breaks" celebrating the sport of running and the added thrill of racing.

Great read and approachable training plans for all levels!
I love the humor and easy writing style of the authors. After reading Run Like a Mother, I was so excited for this book. It didn't disappoint! In addition to lots of advice and anecdotes, this book offers 2 training plans for each distance (5k, 10k, 13.1 and 26.2) - beginner and advanced. I'm currently in Week 9 of the Marathon: Finish It plan (20-week), and, with plenty of other things going on in my life, have really appreciated the flexibility. I would normally feel guilty about not rigidly following a plan, but these plans give you the option to skip the occasional run if life gets in the way. (Not the long run, though!) I'm so grateful for that permission, and I still feel 100% on track! Love the mix of hill workouts, interval training, tempo, race pace, easy pace, negative splits, etc. Keeps things interesting!

Great training plans!
I really do love this book. The advice and anecdotes are down to earth and highly relatable for those trying to juggle a busy life AND a running life. The training plans are well-done and keep thing interesting with varying workouts, allowing for bailout days when life gets overwhelming and letting you know which workouts are too important to skip or skimp. I trained for my last race using the Own It Half Marathon plan, and couldn't be happier with my results. I recommend TLAM to all my running friends!

Fantastic!
This book took me to my first marathon with a finishing time of 3:31.32 ( a Boston qualifying time for this 40 year old). The book is witty, inspiring, relatable and unique. The training plans are simple to follow, while at the same time being sophisticated enough to keep you from getting bored. There is variety and flexibility in the training and I think that's what I appreciated most. I enjoyed building miles and building speed as I got closer to my goal. The authors have created a virtual community that supports you through the process of training or just running for fitness. The writing had me laughing and saying "yep, that's me". I highly recommend this book for any runner. While the stories may be geared towards women, they certainly span the entire running community as so many of our "issues" are the same, male or female. The plans would be excellent for any runner! Thanks Dimity and SBS for another fantastic read.

Good for any and all runners
This book is a comprehensive training plan for any level of runner. Whether you are running your first 5k, your first marathon or your 47th, you will like the easy training plans, explanations of how to eat, what to wear on race day and many others in between.
It not only has training schedules, but funny antidotes along the way of why you should follow a certain schedule and how it's worked for other runners. They talk about many practical parts of running and juggling life, whether you are a mother or not. They also go over some pretty sensitive issues, that some others may not talk about. They call it TMI Tuesday and some of the subjects are things like chafe, going commando and various other things that happen in weird places.
The book even comes in 13.1 clever chapters! The only thing I can say that I did not like about this book is that they have question and answer sections scattered throughout. While I like the idea and love the input from other runners, I wish they were concentrated at the back of each chapter instead of being randomly placed, since that meant I had to stop what I was reading to read them instead, so it broke the flow of my concentration. But that is my only complaint. Otherwise, this was an enjoyable book!
I give it 4 stars. I would recommend this book to a friend in a heartbeat!

If it can be, it is better than the first!
I purchased an early copy of this at my school auction and could not put it down, finished in 2 days! The banter between Sarah and Dimity proves even more than before, the true 'sole' mates they have found in each other and how they share that with everyone! There are technical chapters, yet S and D make it so easy to understand, it shows a deeper side of running between the two authors, yet magically you are part of the 'running' conversation - as if the two of them are right there with you. S and D are teachers and friends regardless of how many miles you run, fast or slow...This book meets the needs of ALL WOMEN RUNNERS regardless of miles, races, mother or not, fast slow or somewhere in between. This Is definitely a must have book...Thank you Dimity and Sarah for making my running even more fun and special and important! DO NOT miss the glossary after the chapters are done, so informational and will make you smile!

You are STILL a runner!
Motivational and fun reading to get you back into running after babies. The training plans are realistic and attainable without being fluffy. Worth reading if you are feeling like your left your runner self behind with your pre-baby body.

I Trained Like a Mother with this book!
I discovered TLAM while sitting in my Barnes and Nobles last winter. I had just signed up for my first half-marathon - really an excuse for a weekend away with girlfriends (no kids or husbands). I LOVED this book and feel like I've become a Sarah and Dimity groupie! I laughed so hard as so many sections of this book but at the same time found amazing resources for my training. I liked the book so much that I ordered 3 more copies and had them delivered to the homes of my lady friends who would be joining me at the Disney Wine and Dine half marathon. I am the youngest of our crowd (43) but was running my first 1/2. I have only been running for about a year or so but was always pretty athletic. I found such great resources here - about running of course - but also about surviving the mommy guilt of disappearing for 2 hour long runs toward the end of our training. I want to give a shout out to this book for those of you shopping, having just returned from my 1/2 marathon at Disney. I set a goal (though I was very open to this being a flexible goal per the ladies' advice) of 2:30 and finished the race at 2:30:17 (with a multitude of character photos on my camera). I honestly enjoyed every single mile of my half marathon, so much so that I know I can go faster the next time around...and there will be a next time. Buy this book if you are wanting to get ready for a 5K, 10K, 1/2, or full marathon and you aspire to becoming a Bad Ass Mother Runner who your children can look up to! My son (age 5) knows to ask if the run I am going out on is a "water bottle" (must do) or a "coffee cup" (can bail if I have to)! Enjoy!

Join the party... you will LOVE it!
Train Like a Mother picks up right where Run Like a Mother left off. The authors look at running through the eyes of busy (sometimes CRAZED) working moms. Whether you are Kara Goucher-esque or Ms. Sedentary But Workin' on It you will appreciate the 'real-ness' of their training plans. The "finish it" v. "own it" options offer the perfect fit for everyone from the "I just started running and I'm not sure I can do this but I want to try" to the "I have been running a while but I need a booster shot to get over this plateau".
Hilarious anecdotes that will have you saying, "yep, sounds like my house!" along with clear definitions of some of running's mysterious terms will keep you reading and loving this book.
And, of course, if you don't look them up on [...] or on their Facebook page (Run Like a Mother: The Book) you are missing out on a whole OTHER source of Mother Runnin' Lovin'!
