Description

The stakes are high . . . and the entire world is waiting for the verdict. The Navy has uncovered a group of radical Islamic clerics who have infiltrated the Navy Chaplain Corps, inciting sailors and marines to acts of terrorism. And Lieutenant Zack Brewer has been chosen to prosecute them for treason and murder. Only three years out of law school, Zack has already made a name for himself, winning the coveted Navy Commendation medal. Just coming off a high-profile win, this case will challenge the very core of Zack's skills and his Christian beliefs---beliefs that could cost him the case and his career. With Diane Colcernian, his staunchest rival, as assistant prosecutor, Zack takes on internationally acclaimed criminal defense lawyer Wells Levinson. And when Zack and Diane finally agree to put aside their animosity, it causes more problems than they realize. Don Brown is the author of Thunder in the Morning Calm , The Malacca Conspiracy , The Navy Justice Series, and The Black Sea Affair , a submarine thriller that predicted the 2008 shooting war between Russia and Georgia. Don served five years in the U.S. Navy as an officer in the Judge Advocate General's (JAG) Corps, which gave him an exceptional vantage point into both the Navy and the inner workings "inside-the-beltway" as an action officer assigned to the Pentagon. He left active duty in 1992 to pursue private practice, but remained on inactive status through 1999, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He and his family live in North Carolina, where he pursues his passion for penning novels about the Navy. www.donbrownbooks.com Facebook: Don-Brown Excerpt. © Reprinted by permission. Treason - Timely and Troublesome

If you believe that the terrorist attack at Fort Hood last month was a random event, think again.

It is not a particularly comforting thought.

In Treason, copyrighted in 2005, author Don Brown relates the infiltration of Muslim terrorists into the US Navy as a means of corrupting/destroying the military arm of the United States. Using our laws covering religious freedom, and threats of political correctness to allege discrimination charges, angry Muslim militant cells were/have been allowed to move into sensitive military positions. It's a deadly pact, death for innocent civilians and Naval personnel and martyrdom for the terrorists.

The treason is discovered when one of the Muslims apparently did not get the martyrdom memo, giving time for a creative/illegal investigation by NCIS. Ultimately charges are brought for treason to three Muslim "chaplains."

This is amazingly precedent to recent events. However, in this case the President, after a heated debate between his Attorney General and Naval Command, opts to try the case in the Military Court. The plot follows from there.

A year ago I might not have bothered to download this free book on Kindle. If I had, I might have thought that the fiction was just too far out there to believe. Not now. Actually, Treason makes me wonder how much the Military knows regarding Muslim infiltration into our Military, and what they are doing to eradicate these traitors. Obviously, not enough. One can only hope that the lessons learned from the casualties at Fort Hood help erase the naive notion that being politically correct adds to National Defense. It obviously does not.

I would have rated Treason higher if some of the story lines had not been so obvious/dubious. For instance, there is a rape trial where we meet the two protagonist lawyers that has a questionable result that is not resolved. And, then there is the Uncle of the hero's client in the rape, a Senator, who offers him both his niece and a Congressional seat in Louisiana for the winning conviction effort. And, equally amazing, there's another irony - the niece's surname is Landrieu, the same as the Senator from Louisiana who took a $300M payoff for her vote on the healthcare issue. Perhaps this is all you need to know about Louisiana. (Recall that this book was copyrighted in 2005).

We can only hope when fiction and fact become conjoined, as occurred in Fort Hood, that the Nation receives the same type of predictable positive result and gets back on course. If not, we will have to cope with more horrible events in the naive name of diversity.

A MUST READ!

Hands down, this is one of the best series I have ever read, and I read a LOT of books. All three of these book were top notch. Action, Suspense, Christian. I don't want to give away any of the plot. Just read it!

Excellent Read!

I just read Treason and it is very gripping! I especially enjoyed the fact that it is so timely. Mr. Brown catches you immediately with the bombing of the church and it escalates from there. A page turner! I can't wait for the sequel. Great job for a new author.

Better than Grisham, Better than Dan Brown!

I got intereted in this book because I am a big JAG Fan. I also read lots of Grisham and have read all Dan Brown's works. All I can say is wow! Don Brown's book is an exciting cross between the JAG TV Show and the Movie A Few Good Men. Only it's much better than both.

This book is an irresistable page turner. The court martial scenes are gripping and are frankly, far better than anything Grisham has ever done. Plus all the vivid naval descriptions, the white uniforms and the romantic thread, set against the realistic thread of Muslim terrorist infiltrating the Navy, make this book simply spellbounding.

I hear that Mr. Brown is soon coming out with another JAG novel, Hostage. I simply can't wait. Bravo Mr. Brown. Keep them coming!

Great Story

'Treason' is a legal thriller with a very interesting plot.

The story is about three radical Muslim chaplains in the U.S. Navy who are on trial for recruiting and directing jihadists who have the 'cover' of being in various jobs in the Navy and Marine Corps.

Charged with murder and directing acts of terror through their proxies, the chaplains are prosecuted by Navy Lt. Zach Brewer, the JAG prosecutor. Throughout the course of the book, Brewer is not only prosecuting the highest profile court martial in Navy history, but is also dealing with issues regarding his own spirituality. Raised as a Christian, he has slipped away from the faith and is currently exploring his own beliefs and commitment.

This is a very well done novel that is highly entertaining as well as thought provoking. I highly recommend it. I also plan to read 'Hostage' which is another book in this series.

A Real Page Turner

From the time I began reading Treason, I did not want to put it down. The scenes are vividly descriptive and clearly written. There is drama, suspense, and romance. Mr. Brown's knowledge of the military legal system is obvious. I enjoyed Treason very much and I cannot wait for the next book in this series.

Unless you are looking for a Bible story, look elsewhere

The story line of this book is so simplistic as to be insulting, and the plot holes are enormous. All the "good" (i.e. Christian) characters are attractive, highly intelligent and charismatic, and Republican and the evil characters are "swarthy" Muslims, a Jewish lawyer who will represent anyone for enough money and a corrupt Democratic senator from Louisiana who tries to steer the main character from the righteous and good to become a greedy politician like himself (unsuccessfully of course). If that isn't enough, why does the main character send a very likely innocent man to prison with not much more than some pangs of guilt, never really trying to get to the truth? Any why is it never tied out as to why the Democratic senator's niece probably tried to entrap the innocent man...just to get close to main character? Really? I could go on and on regarding this poorly disguised and written biblical tale but if you want to read a bible story pick up a bible...

Very Striking

Reading some of the one star reviews of this novel causes me to beleive they may have read a different book than I did. I think they may have been touched by the under currents of christianity and the knowledge that the publisher specializes in Christian writings. In my case I found it to be a very good read. I had read the Malacci conspiracy and strongly enjoyed it. This lead me to read all the novels from the beginning. The theme of the Novel ran very straight through and the complaints of the trial by other reviewers were beyond me. It was a young very competent Lawyer against the best in the world. The way it was handled in my opinion was quite understandable and enjoyable. My self, I will continue to read on with his books, we know that everyone has a right to their opinion and mine is very "Outstanding" in our Naval Jargon.

OK legal thriller

This is an OK legal thriller about a young navy attorney named Zack Brewer. Zack's life changes in a hurry when he wins a high profile case and is offered his dream career and another high profile case that is crucial to national security. Terrorists have infiltrated the U.S. Navy to cripple the nation's defenses from the inside and Zack is tasked with trying them in military court.

This fiction was written in 2005, but given recent events, it is amazing how true this story can be. This is a quick, easy read which concentrates on courtroom drama, not character development. Although there is some violence perpetrated by the terrorists, the author does not go into gory details.

The story is good, but there are a few problems I had with the plot. The first half of the book deals with a rape trial and I believe there are some things left unresolved there and the author just moves on to the next trial. The terrorism trial details are glossed over and needed much more development. I enjoyed the story and wanted to keep reading the book, but the suspense did not wow me.

Couldn't Put It Down

If you're a JAG fan, like me, I guarantee you won't put this book down. The author brilliantly writes of two high-profile court martials which take place involving the dashing Lieutenant Zack Brewer and the beautiful, sassy Lieutenant Diane Colcenian. Theirs is a love-hate relationship for the ages, which is solidified when they take on the famous defense lawyer Wells Levinson in the prosecution of three Islamic Navy chaplains.

I finished this book and immediately bought its sequel, Hostage. I think I'm falling in love with Zack Brewer.

My only complaint was Mr. Brown did not leave Zack's telephone number anywhere in the novel! Move over Commander Harm! There's a new JAG Super Hero on the block! His name is Zack!

Highly recommended.
