Features & Highlights

  • The truth will set you free—if it doesn't kill you first.
  • After a serious professional stumble, attorney Trevor Mann may have finally hit his stride. He's found happiness with his girlfriend Claire Parker, a beautiful, ambitious journalist always on the hunt for a scoop. But when Claire's newest story leads to a violent confrontation, Trevor's newly peaceful life is shattered as he tries to find out why. Chasing Claire's leads, Trevor unearths evidence of a shocking secret that—if it actually exists—every government and terrorist organization around the world would do anything to possess. Suddenly it's up to Trevor, along with a teenage genius who gives new meaning to the phrase "too smart for his own good," to make sure that secret doesn't fall into the wrong hands. But Trevor is about to discover that good and evil can look a lot alike, and nothing is ever black and white: not even the truth.

Disappointed

Not the usual James Patterson novel. This one disappointed me. Usually Patterson's books are page turners that I can't put down till I finish them. This one, however, despite the short chapters (which I like), was hard to get through. Except for "the kid" and Trevor Mann, too many characters popped in & out without real development; and by the end of the book, I was glad to see it over. Usually I'm looking for more. Had Patterson's name not been on this one, I would have quit it half way through.

ATTENTION WHIP-LASH

I tried to read "Truth or Die" by James Patterson and Howard Roughan. Yargh! How can people read this stuff? I liked it at first and could see the appeal in the prologue, but by Page 23 I felt nauseous from attention whip-lash. Talk about jerked around! Too many characters, too many leaps, too many short scenes. This is supposed to be fun? (SPOILER ALERT) Why do thriller writers kill off characters at first? Two characters I liked got zipped in the first 20 pages or so, and that was disappointing to me. Are people intrigued by that? Not me. I didn't feel drawn in but pushed away.

Awww not again.

I guess I should have read the reviews before purchasing this book. I didn't enjoy Patterson's last book that much, but thought I would give it a try in case his writing was like it used to be. Now in all fairness I haven't finished the book yet, and I may not finish. The liberal-ness he writes with is as off-putting as the smell of skunk spray.

I purchase and read fiction books for entertainment not for a political angle or political comments. Yes, I think I've just convinced myself to scrap Patterson's books. Brad Thor is pretty good though.

Something happened right in the middle of this book. After pages of shootouts, narrow misses, and intrigue - it all just stops. The second half is dull and the writing is not typical of Patterson at all. There are too many names and characters, a fact referenced in the main character's own words. The story is not interesting, is not tied together. Two different incidents in the second half had me thinking, oh is he still alive? Pretty bad when I find myself wishing one of the myriad of characters would emerge as a strong lead and make sense of it all. Would not recommend.
