Description

About the Author Since graduating from Old Dominion University with a BS in health sciences and a minor in management, Jennifer Jaynes has made her living as a content manager, webmaster, news publisher, editor, and copywriter. Her first novel, Never Smile at Strangers , quickly found an audience and, in 2014, became a USA Today bestseller. When she’s not spending time with her twin sons or writing, she loves reading, cooking, studying nutrition, doing CrossFit, and playing poker. She currently lives in the Dallas area with her husband and two sons.

Features & Highlights

  • Sixteen-year-old Allie has already experienced a lifetime of horror, having lost her mother and serial killer brother to mental illness.
  • Returning to her childhood home in Louisiana, Allie ends up in foster care and is placed with Miss Bitty, an eccentric but kindly older woman who shows her a new direction and brighter future.
  • But Allie’s new life takes a devastating turn when young women in the area start turning up dead, and she begins to see shadowy figures outside her bedroom. As Miss Bitty grows inexplicably distant, a nagging voice makes Allie wonder if death has found her yet again…or if it never really left her at all.

Could not put it down- masterfully crafted and beautifully written

This book is simply a gem; The protagonist, Allie, is one of the most beautifully drawn characters I’ve ever had the pleasure of getting to know intimately. Jaynes writes her with such rich, naked lucidity- and yet such tenderness- that every emotion she experiences threatens to be the reader’s as well. The book is a dark journey but a great ride, through to a remarkable twist of an ending. Could not put it down. Highly recommended.

Stunning

I read Jennifer Jaynes first book Never Smile At Strangers. I absolutely LOVED it! When I saw she had another book out in a matter of months I was wondering if she could pull off yet another stunner, yet another twist, yet another fantastic plot with her awesome style of writing that holds your attention from beginning to end, and someone else I need to 'tell off' for keeping me AWAKE at night because I can't put the blinking book down!!!

Yes
Yes
OH YES

She has done it again.

The subject matter kept me glued. I wanted to know what would happen to Allie. After being around such HORROR what would happen to her. Was the families madness part of their genetic makeup? Would she too start on that same course of road....eventually?

When she is cared for by Miss Bitty. I NEEDED to know what made her so nice, so understanding, what was her flaming secret!!!!!! What in the hell was it! I NEEDED to know...

My giddy aunt, when I finally got to the ending, I put my Kindle on my lap and said "O>>>>M>>>>>G....what a bloody fantastic read!

If love a good thriller, if you love something to get your teeth into......
YOU need to buy this.

This author cannot write books fast enough for me now....

Jennifer Jaynes if you are reading this, get pen to paper, I need another fantastic read that keeps me awake, keeps me focused and forgets the world around me! YOU did this, so I am stalking you [In a nice way :)]

Sometimes an author can get a fab book out there, and the 2nd is a bit.......??
BUT this was not, definitely NOT a disappointment, in fact, I wants more. I NEED more.

Certainly up with my top 10 for Thrillers/Psychological, this year.

My thanks go to Jennifer Jaynes for telling me when it was up on Net Galley and to Thomas & Mercer Publishers for allowing me freedom to choose this

This can be read as a stand alone book

Yes Indeed you will be Thrilled to read these Thrillers !

I enjoy reading different types of books. It was refreshing to read something I would not have to be embarrassed about if someone picked it up to check it out. I really loved how the characters came to life and you were holding your breath as things played out! The special details that made you right there with them every step had me taking extra looks around & checking my locks again before going to bed!!. (I won't give them away and spoil your thrill but I was really able to get into the books!) One of the best things is I really tried to figure it out and was still surprised at the end! Good Job on that as most times I know how it will end. :) I am not usually impressed with an Author that is new to me. Jennifer Jaynes is the exception with both of her new books and I can't wait for her next book to come out! Do yourself a favor and get both at the same time~ "Never Smile At Strangers" to read then have "Ugly Young Thing" to start right away afterwards, you will be glad you did!

A Great Psychological Thriller

This is the second book in the Trespass Series and the way it ended, I hope we will hear more from Allie.

Allie returns home to Trespass Louisiana and is placed in the foster home of Miss Bitty. She is a health and wellness expert who works with clients to lose weight and become healthy. Allie is an orphan with her father walking out on the family when she was young, her mother killed by her brother and her brother committing suicide, she is worried about her own mental health. She is convinced she is ugly due to her mother's comments all her life, but she is really a beautiful young lady. Miss Bitty hires a teacher to home school Allie and get her ready for her GED. Allie begins to blossom under Miss Bitty's care. During the same time there is a murderer on the loose in Trespass and Miss Bitty is convinced that Allie is in danger. This is a great psychological thriller and a wonderful follow up to Never Smile at Strangers.

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

If you want to read a great "thriller" or murder mystery this is the book for ...

Jennifer Jaynes is an author on my keeper shelf. She is a master at spinning a story so you think you know "who done it" only to be shocked by the spin at the end. If you want to read a great "thriller" or murder mystery this is the book for you. Jennifer touches on issues of self image, mental issues, drug abuse and of course murder. Don't miss any of Jennifer Jaynes books. You will love her!

She did it again!

Another wonderful, intense page-turner from Jennifer Jaynes! Ugly Young Thing reads great as a stand alone novel, but I highly recommend reading Never Smile at Strangers first. Ugly Young Thing takes you deep inside of a dark mind, dragging you through the story as you try to figure everything out (and you're probably wrong). It's wonderfully twisted. I highly recommend it!

Masterfully crafted psychological thriller!

Well, just finished this masterpiece. This is a very well crafted psychological thriller. This novel is a sequel to Ms Jaynes novel Never Talk to Strangers. It meshes very well as a
sequel, but can be read as a stand alone as well. This novel delves deep into the mind of a mentally ill serial killer. The twists and turns left
me frantically trying to find hope for a young homeless girl who has lost her family and ends up in a foster home. Words cannot express the emotional journey this story took me on. You must read this book.

Another great novel by Jennifer Jaynes!

Ugly Young Thing is the sequel to Never Smile at Strangers and picks up seamlessly where the other left off. Once again, the town of Grand Trespass comes to life in this psychological thriller and once again, I am left contemplating some very dark thoughts about "the human condition" as a result of the authors amazing ability to create something more than a novel, more than just a story. This installment has left me wondering what will happen next! and how long must we wait to find out?!?! This novel was very thought provoking, and left me with a number of fascinating questions about the human psyche. Sadly, I fear that asking those questions here will only leave a bunch of spoilers in the post so I will have to look elsewhere for some answers. ;)

I truly enjoyed this book, as well as Never Smile at Strangers and I am more than certain I will enjoy the next installment (PLEASE say that there will be another one!) when it is released.

Jennifer Jaynes has made her way onto my list of preferred authors and I look forward to watching her career as an author grow!
