Description

About the Author Brian Watson went vegan in 2018 and, since the moment the switch flipped, he’s been busy veganizing his favorite foods, as well as nostalgic dishes from childhood—and eventually reader requests! Before going vegan, Brian ate a lot of meat and dairy. He used to throw BBQ get-togethers just about every Sunday and make hot dogs, burgers, tri-tips, you name it. So suffice to say, he never thought he’d ever go vegan. However, after a deep dive of research into the food system and animal agriculture (spurred on by an initial watch of Dairy is Scary ), he has no regrets and remains all-in on being vegan. Thee Burger Dude is now Brian’s full-time job and passion, where he hopes to both deliver delicious eats for fellow vegans and inspire people who might be considering veganism as well—and heck, he’s happy if he gets a meat-eater to try a vegan meal, too! He wants to show that anyone can still enjoy burgers, mac ’n’ cheese, fried chick’n, and any other kind of comfort food, and that it’s all possible with plant-based ingredients.

AWESOME!!!

This cookbook arrived today it’s put together so well! I literally have tears of joy as I flip through the pages. Beautiful pictures and so many good recipes of all the popular fast food items that you miss being Vegan. I have plenty of “healthy” Vegan cookbooks (which is great) but this one will be nice for those “special occasions” when you want something
different (like Friday movie night or something). I have made a few things from the YouTube channel and they turn out Amazing every time. I can’t wait to dig into this book and try these recipes. The hard part is trying to pick one to try first lol
I think I’m going to have to go with the Big Mac. This book is the perfect addition to all the other vegan cookbooks you may have because it’s so different.
Awesome!

A cute little hardcover book but only for the serious cook who absolutely must have a Big Mac!

To be fair, I'm not really sure what I expected when I ordered this book, but I do know it wasn't this! I suppose I was expecting (maybe wrongly) a cookbook containing fast and easy recipes for "fast food" but with vegan ingredients. It does contain recipes for foods that one ordinarily buys at fast food restaurants like McDonalds and Burger King with vegan ingredients. But the recipes are anything but "fast and easy."

As an example, I attached an image of page 31 of the book. This provides the author's "basic" recipe for "burger" meat, which serves as the starting point for many of the recipes that follow for various burger dishes served by many fast food restaurants. As I say, that is just the starting point for many of the fast food recipes. I have not actually attempted to follow any of the recipes (far too much effort) so I render no opinion as to whether the recipes would actually replicate the taste experience of a Big Mac or Whopper as the author claims. It just seems to me that a much finer vegan meal can be prepared with far less effort and less time. So why expend that effort and time attempting to replicate common fast food offerings? I suppose, if one is a committed vegan who absolutely craves a Big Mac, perhaps the effort and time are worth it. Just difficult for me to imagine.

Golden (vegan) nugget of genius

As a longtime follower of ‘Thee Burger Dude’ and watcher of his many YouTube videos, I can say (in no uncertain terms) that Brian Watson puts an immense amount of thought and work into each recipe. Each recipe of his that I have made bears an uncanny resemblance and taste to its original counterpart, and, as I flip through these pages of “Vegan Fast Food”, I am confident that the same goes for each delicious creation. The photos alone impart a sense of nostalgia for certain flavors or memories, which can now be replicated with ease thanks to the clear instructions and use of common household ingredients. Bound between two covers are unprecedented replicas of the most famous comfort foods, which are made infinitely better by being cruelty-free!!! Each page is a golden (vegan) nugget of genius! Well Done. -Hanz

Yep, you can veganize it!

Great recipes with a photo for each of them. I appreciate how to-the-point Brian is about everything and the list of "(Un)common Ingredients" is helpful, as I now know what I will need that probably isn't already in my pantry (like Sodium Citrate and Lactic Acid, which aren't a requirement, but sound like they do the trick to nail some of the flavors). So excited to try these recipes! My husband is looking forward to the "In-n-Out Burger" and I can't wait to try the "Wendy's Frosty!" Great work, Brian.

LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! This cookbook!

My boyfriend found this book from youtube and it was the only thing he wanted for his birthday, and we haven't regretted it once! Everything is so so tasty and while not always simple, the instructions are easy to follow, and the recipes are great dupes for their non-vegan counterparts. We are both vegan and it's great to have recipes for "fast" food! Our favorites so far are the smashburger technique, the frosty dupe and the donuts! Yummy! I recommend this book to everyone!

This book makes me happy

To be honest, I have not made any of the recipes in this book, but I like TBD's YouTube channel, and I adore vegan junk food even though I try to minimise my consumption of it. For no other reason than I'm lazy, I'm not one to dredge or deep fry things or spend time making meat analogues, but I will sometimes eat such things with gusto without feeling I'm breaking any kind of vegan ethical boundary. For me, this collection is a bright, cheerful coffee table book that shows me how I could make all of my childhood junk food classics if I choose to, and that is enough to give TBD 5 stars for his efforts. Hoping his next stop is an international chain of TBD restaurants starting in New Zealand!

Love this!

I am in love with this book! I’ve been following The Burger Dude on Twitter for a while and was eager to get this once it was announced. I have only made a few of the recipes but they taste amazing when done, so I have high hopes for the rest! I actually got my heavy meat eating mother to love them. Highly recommend for a burger lover that is vegan.

Great Recipes, Wonderful Book

This 176 page book is very nicely put together with hard covers, thick paper, bright colors, and excellent photos of all the food. 5 stars for the book quality.

The recipes are all introduced and thoroughly explained with step-by-step instructions and hints boxes for ways to customize or adjust the recipes if desired. Any uncommon ingredients are described and substitutions (when possible) for hard to find ingredients are provided. Reading through the book was actually very entertaining. 5 stars for readability!

I then tried two recipes to see how accurately Mr Watson had reproduced the originals. Wow! He nailed them both!!! The Little Caesars Crazy Bread was so good that it disappeared very quickly - even before our entrees were tasted. Note to self: next time GRAB two right away.

The Panda Express Kung Pao Chicken was next and it, too, was a real winner. I have to admit that I made it with chicken breasts instead of vegan chick'n though. 5 stars for recipe accuracy!

Which brings me to my main point: while these are vegan recipes as written, there is nothing to stop you from substituting ingredients that are not vegan (such as my chicken breasts) and still ending up with delicious meals. Cutting back on animal products instead of eliminating them entirely is still a good step and this cookbook will help in that effort while making meals the family will actually eat.

Great cookbook!
