Description

"Every now and then you'll stumble upon a book that is just different than the others in its genre. This was that story for me, I've read countless paranormal stories in the past 7-10 years and this one stands out. Maybe it's because the author has done one of my absolute favorite things... she's turned a PNR story into a love/hate saga. It's glorious, it's consuming, it's unique. - Amy March, S30C

Features & Highlights

  • "Darkness isn't one shade, sweetheart." Three centuries ago, Molly Darling’s ancestors signed a contract in blood—daemon blood—to protect themselves from harm. On the eve she turns nineteen, Molly leaves for her birthday party against her parent’s wishes, sick of their warnings about her “betrothal to a demon.” Except that she’s very much betrothed, and he’s very much a demon—one who’s only agreed to the nuptials to use Molly’s ancient daemon powers. Brash, arrogant, and built like a Greek god, Tensley Knight keeps showing up to save Molly from otherworldly attacks, only to insult her a moment later. As Molly learns more about the demon world, she realizes two things: that her family’s safety depends on a successful marriage, while any chance of freedom she’ll ever have calls for Tensley’s demise. Yet sometimes Molly spots a tortured soul beyond those liquid grey eyes, and there’s no denying the way her skin tingles when Tensley touches it. In Vein of Love, safety requires sacrifice, foe becomes lover, and one must decide whether to kiss...or to kill.

"It's a delicate, dark, monstrous dance"

You think you have saw all and then R. Scarlett shows up with an amazing Blackest Gold Series.
But let me start by telling you how good this book was.

For Molly, turning nineteen was supposted to mean ultimate freedom. But Molly felt anything but free. After an irreversible encounter between her and Tensley (the demon), many secrets will come to light.
There is a pact that was made 300 years ago and if she wants to keep her family protected, she will go through with it. But there is something she never expected to happen, she will be attracted to this demon in a way she never did before, but will she marry him or destroy him?

Maybe love will save them, or break them altogether.

I never imagine this book will turn out this way. I loved all the emotions and feelings I had from Tensley and Molly in the whole book. A love so intense that makes you want to keep reading again and again. The writing of R. Scarlett has taken demons, daemons and their whole world to a new level and it is just impossible to stop reading it and falling in love with the whole story and characters.

It was refreshing to read something new and different from all the PNR books you can find out there and it also made me want to read even more of R. Scarlett's work.
I'm so looking forward for book 2!!!

Okay after a slow start

I have to admit that I wasn't really impressed by this book in the beginning. I found Molly to be one of the women that really are too stupid to survive and should be removed from the breeding pool. And Tensley... well he was an ass. I probably would have stopped reading at this point except I was supposed to do a review. So I kept going.

And what I found is that the characters grew on me. Molly wasn't really that stupid but she is rather naive. And Tensley was raised in a culture that demanded that he be that ass. The secondary characters really helped the story along. September is a great kick ass heroine who deserves her own book.

So while VEIN OF LOVE isn't one of the best paranormal romances I have read, it did end up being enjoyable and one that I can recommend to my readers. Just be prepared for the rather slow start.

*** I received this book at no charge from NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review. All opinions expressed within are my own.
