Description

About the Author Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862) was an American author, transcendentalist, philosopher, naturalist, poet, abolitionist, historian, etc. He is best known for writing Walden.

Features & Highlights

  • Walden, or A Life in the Woods, was first published in 1854. Thoreau spent two years, two months, and two days living in a cabin he built by Walden Pond in Massachusetts. The woodlands were owned by his friend Ralph Waldo Emerson. Thoreau fictionalized it a bit by condensing it down to one year in the book, so the passing of the seasons symbolize human development. His focus was simple living and self-sufficiency, and was inspired by transcendental philosophy. The cabin was actually on the edge of town, not in the wilderness, but he still felt immersed in nature.
  • This Large Print Edition is presented in easy-to-read 16 point type.

Tiny print but big message!

Great classic book in a tiny little version. Small print indeed, but it does fit in your purse for a quick read while waiting for someone to show up, or while waiting in line. I love Thoreau--there are so many memorable quotes that elevate my spirits and bring me back to what really matters in this life. I took a class on him recently and found out that he really valued friendships and family along with nature and simplicity--such good messages for us today in this hectic world we live in. Highly recommend if you can read the smaller print this version offers.
