Description

About the Author Emerson Robbins coached youth soccer for over thirty-five years. He was named Coach of the Year for Seattle in 2007, Coach of the Year in Washington State in 2008 , COY for the Western U.S. and runner-up for National Coach of the Year in 2009. This true story was inspired by the FC Shoreline International team that he coached from 2005 thru 2010. This is Emerson Robbins second book. Robbins retired in 2018 and lives on Whidbey Island in WA State with the love of his life, his wife Sherri.

Features & Highlights

  • A racially diverse youth soccer team comprised largely of immigrant players from a multitude of different countries, races and religions come together to achieve the unthinkable in this entertaining true account of inclusion, acceptance and brotherhood on the tattered road to victory. The story tells how this diverse collection of immigrant boys and their families bonded with the existing white American players and families, coming together to overcome numerous challenges, adversity and racism. Though they had little in common, other than their love of the game, they became an extended family of sorts and learned to embrace one another and celebrate their differences on their path to winning several State Championships. A truly inspirational story for our country and our world and a unifying message for these turbulent times.

Wonderful Lessons on soccer and perspective on life

Emerson proves that people matter over product or pride. He shares the stories so well, as though they happened yesterday. Clearly these young men and their families were very dear to him.
The book is written so well, so that anyone new or experienced in soccer can understand the game better. Clearly he just can’t stop coaching even in retirement!
The lessons in this book are profound; kids aren’t a means to a goal, where coaches build programs to succeed or create a name for themselves. Rather kids ARE the goal, to help them develop from boys to men, to be cared about and cared for no matter where they come from or how unique their personalities.

You will enjoy the stories, the universal lessons of life, and the perspective “Skip” provides.

What an inspiring and heartwarming book!

We All Wore Blue was an amazing read. I don’t know that much about soccer, yet I was captured by this book. I just could not put it down! I enjoyed hearing a story about people from many different cultures and backgrounds coming together. It is amazing that Skip was able to help these young men play soccer despite expensive club fees, breaking the economic barrier that high level sports in this country often has. I would highly recommend this book to pretty much everyone. It was easy to understand the message and has a very unique story.

Heartwarming Story about Competitive Youth Soccer Team

This was a great story; Robbins writes in a very straight-forward and factual manner to tell the story of how a youth team went from being a weak recreational team to becoming a formidable competitive squad in the Washington State Youth Soccer Program. The team, Shoreline International, had an unusual composition, as Robbins built the squad with boys from different nationalities, multiple religions, and varying economic classes. His story demonstrates the power of team sports (particularly soccer) and how that single focus of playing together as a team allowed these boys to bond in ways that transcend the multiple prejudices and bigotry present in our culture today. Amazing job by Robbins and the story was well told. Like a previous reviewer, I read the book in just two settings, as it is written in a way to cause the reader to want to keep going....to find out what happens next! Great book and great story!!!
