Features & Highlights

  • Everybody knows that goblins and fairies can’t be friends. But that never stopped Tinker and Bell. Bellamy Merriweather Larousse isn’t like the other fairies at Harmswood Academy, with her giant wings and their magical dust. “Southern Bell” works as a barista at The Hallowed Bean to help pay her tuition and remains active on the cheering squad, despite her insistence on associating with the unpopular crowd. Every day is sunny in Bellamy’s world and every cloud has a silver lining. The only way to upset Bell’s stalwart optimism is to threaten one of her misfit friends…or try to take one of them from her. Unbeknownst to everyone—including him—outcast Ranulf “Tinker” Tinkerton is about to be named heir to the throne of the Goblin King, making him ruler of his fellow Lost Boys and the labyrinthine city they inhabit. Now that the time has come for Tinker to leave Harmswood behind, will he be brave enough to share his feelings for Bellamy? It’s no secret that he’s held a torch for her since the fourth grade, but no matter how long they’ve been friends, goblins will always be allergic to fairies. Or will they?

I love this YA addition to NFU

I love this YA addition to NFU. When Tinker Meets Bell is sort of a Goonies meets Revenge of the Nerds meets Stranger Things meets Pretty in Pink. Basically, it follows a group of nerdy friends who happen to be all kinds of strange and awkward supernatural beings, at a school where you not only have toworry about trying to fit in, but you also have to worry about werewolf jocks, witches, spells, curses, magic, fate, and destiny. Bell is the overly optimistic fairy who, while embraced by everyone (often literally) never knows who genuinely wants to be around her or if they just want her for her fair dust. She has found her best friend in the one person who didn't care about her fairy dust, in fact he's allergic to it. Tinker the Goblin, has always felt invisible and insecure besides the one girl who never looked at him and saw only his green, warty skin, and his quirky group of friends. Tinker decides to finally express his feelings to Bell, but is pulled back into the goblin world he had left behind.
I love this story so much. I love the unique abilities and supernaturals that Alethea has cast together. Bell and the group work together to rescue Tinker, and each of the characters personalities show through despite it being a short story. Tinker has a heart for his fellow goblins and while willing to take on the role as leader, he would prefer to return to school with Bell and his friends. There's no big fight scene or major drama in this book, but it's a fun quest type story, plus a great friendship-to-love story mixed in.

Star Crossed Lovers

A super cute tale about two people who should remain on opposite ends of the universe never meeting. Friends for an eternity, Tinker and Belle (Bellamy) slowly grew to love each other. The fact that he's allergic to her doesn't matter in their friendship, but for a relationship, it's a real killer. I loved getting to see Aletha's second venture into Nocturne Falls and the younger generation who inhabit the town. She rounds out the town nicely giving the younger citizens a voice. The story was everything one could expect and perfect for younger readers as well as adults.
