Description

The book was edited and reorganized because while it was being published, Jim and I were in the middle of moving to Surfside Beach, South Carolina, and he had COVID. I sent it to be published without the proper due diligence of proofreading it.xa0xa0xa0xa0xa0xa0xa0xa0xa0xa0xa0 As time passed, I found that I was not happy with the work being out of order, so I invested my time into improving it. I truly hope it's a better read now, and I honestly hope that the readers find something worthwhile in reading it.

Features & Highlights

  • Being an outsider is tough.
  • Being an outsider in your own home and not knowing why is soul-crushing.
  • It is isolating, painful, and confusing. Loneliness and longing are your reality. You’re consumed with guilt, self-deprecating inner dialogue, and the fear of doing even the most minor thing wrong. You spend a lot of time alone…even when you’re not. You watch a lot of TV. This is all your fault. Obviously, you are living this way because of something you did to warrant it. If they beat you, you deserved it. If they punish you, you asked for it. You never want to go home, but you don’t have a choice because you’ve never had a choice.
  • This is it.This is what you have.
  • This is all you know.
  • And yet, you still smile when you sometimes catch a glimpse of the sweeter things and treasure the slightest kindness. You know life isn’t supposed to be like this, but it is. Your life is like a bubble of poison gas that could burst at any moment…you know that. You live that. But how are you supposed to make sense of any of this? How do you make it stop? You can’t. You are powerless. You haven’t even reached kindergarten yet. From a severely abusive childhood in the inner city of Baltimore, a string of unsatisfying relationships, and several broken marriages, to a six-figure income from the multi-million-dollar business I built out of my home, this is my story in my own words. I was stolen as a baby when my mother died. I was lied to by my kidnapper and used as a Cinderella punching bag by his never-ending parade of “step-mothers” and girlfriends, and much worse when he didn’t have one. This memoir covers the good, the bad, and the ugly. As this story unfolds, I hope the reader will discover a little girl who survived that abusive childhood, healed and empowered herself through discipline and hard work. I hope you see a girl who became a woman who learned from her mistakes and a whole human being who loves her newfound family with all her heart. I am no longer an outsider. I can go home now.

Wow!

Wow! I’m finding it hard to find the right words to use. Great read with raw emotion. This book isn’t for the faint hearted but I’m hoping each reader finds the author’s personal strength and ability to rise above as inspirational as I have. I am in complete awe, as I always have been, of the author’s ability to keep moving forward and not wallow in self pity as some might. It took courage and guts to put in written word what she and her family, as large as it now is, have been through. I hope other can find some meaning for their own lives through the authors words and life.

A beautifully written story

Just couldn't put it down. A story of strength, courage and perseverance to get answers to so many questions. I laughed and cried as childhood memories came flooding back, having grown up in the same South Baltimore neighborhood. A true story of a brutal childhood with a fairytale ending that will have you cheering. You can feel the pain and emotion with every chapter. I pray that one day the people who inflicted so much pain and suffering upon this child are held accountable for their actions. Thank you for having the courage to share your story.

This was a book that I couldn’t put down. I couldn’t imagine living through such a severely abusive childhood and being kidnapped. Despite the horrible things that happened during her lifetime, this beautiful lady overcome her battles. Be prepared to cry and laugh all at the same time. I enjoyed this book and thank you for sharing your story! I highly recommend reading this book!

Unbelievable story about faith and courage!

Bunny's dramatic story about surviving abuse is both inspiring and courageous. At times you'll wonder how anyone could bounce back from what she went through, and then you turn the page to discover she saved an entire Baltimore neighborhood from a horrible tragedy. This book really should be a lifetime movie! In the end Bunny finds peace and love. You'll be cheering on her happy ending (I'm not going to give it away). Bring the tissues!

Beautiful inside and out!

I read this book in 2 days. I couldn't put it down. Reading about the abuse brought me to tears. It was difficult to read because she is my cousin and I never knew. I also probably blushed alittle when I was reading some of her intimate stories. I was overwhelmed with anger and sadness in the beginning but by the end I was excited that she was able to escape and have a family of her own. So excited that she found her true love and her family.

An easy read. Draws you in quickly. You’ll want to keep reading.

When you read the book’s description, you might wonder if a story about childhood abuse would be depressing? The Author has shared her story in a manner that is heartfelt and commands empathy, yet does not cause the reader pain. Her style prompts you to continue turning pages, curious to learn, “...and then what?” This is a story of a little girl whose mindset and determination to rise above will inspire all readers. She is open about her mistakes, honest about her faults, wise in the lessons learned, and has overcome the odds. You’ll be cheering her on as you read!

Beneath the darkness, Bunny's genuine spirit shines thru!

Bunny & her story are a GIFT to humanity. I have known her for about 15 years, a casual work friendship, paired with meaningful conversations & hugs. She spoke about overcoming tragedy, but I never knew the depth. No one did!
Her book helped me learn the dark & unfathomable part of her life. As a Mom of two, I read the pages, looked at my kids bikes in the driveway, and couldn't imagine them going through anything like Bunny did.
What's for certain - Her joy, spirit, faith, and stunning smile always kept her going. I am MORE in awe of the person she is, and love that I call her my Friend!
***Pick up this book. You will enjoy each mini story, and can't wait to read on to find out what happens next. I laughed a lot too! Her autobiography is wonderful balance of life & love.
