Description

Starred Review, Publishers Weekly , May 28, 2012: “Sierra hints at parenthood’s more trying moments, yet what resonates loudest is unconditional love…xa0 the mixed-species adoptions quietly affirm the value of families in all their varieties.” School Library Journal , June, 2012: "The joyful illustrations feature the same pointy-faced animals as in the two previous books… Fans of Wild About Books (2004) and ZooZical (2011, both Knopf) will flock to this one as well." Horn Book , July/ August, 2012: "Children will love one spread in particular in which the baby animals are hiding but can be spotted by observant eyes… this is a good choice both for group sharing and as a loving bedtime story." Kirkus , May 15, 2012: "In lively rhyming couplets that beg to be read aloud, Sierra's zoo animals are back, this time proving that it takes a village zoo to raise children… Bright colors and bold patterns fill the pages, but the true stars are the animals, whose mutual affection shines through on every page." JUDY SIERRA is the author many bestselling and critically acclaimed children's books, including The Sleepy Little Alphabet; Born to Read; Mind Your Manners, B.B. Wolf; Tell the Truth, B.B. Wolf; Suppose You Meet a Dinosaur ; and the New York Times bestseller Wild About Books and it's follow-up, ZooZical .MARC BROWN, best known as the creator of the Arthur books and TV show, has drawn on his love of American folk art in his paintings for Wild About Books , ZooZical , and now Wild About You !

Those parts are really too bad because the rest of the story is pretty sweet

We were given this as a gift, but I have a couple of issues with it. Focuses on the (animal) parents wanting a baby as the main reason for adoption, and the potential parents are quite whiny about it -- even asking another set of parents if they can have their children. When an egg is available for adoption, four or five animals say why they *aren't* interested, and the adoptive mom of the egg is described as "snatching" it. Those parts are really too bad because the rest of the story is pretty sweet, showing how the animals that are more like the adoptive baby animals help to raise them -- like a bird bringing fish to a baby puffin bc the mama isn't an animal that knows how to fish, etc.

You'll read it again...and again...and again...and again

If I have to read this dang book one more time,
I just may, I just may end up losing my mind.
I love this book...no really, I do...
up until I reading it a time or 22
This book has been picked nightly for almost 12 weeks
she knows it by heart, won't let me skip pages or cheat
It's got cute, childless animals all looking for pups
I just need to buy all Judy's books to mix it up

Adorable book and a great way to introduce the topic of adoption!

We absolutely love this book. As an adoptive family, it's a great way to discuss the topic without being too heavy-handed for a young child. It even manages to introduce the topic of infertility and it's difficulty in a fairly cute way. Our son frequently asks for the "egg" book. The illustrations are adorable, and we've gone on to love other books with the same characters, like "Zoozical".

Two year old loves this book

My grandson is obsessed with zoo animals & this book was the first Picture book (not board book) I had read to him. He loves this book. He wants me to read it over & over. I have since bought Zoozical by same author/illustrator & that has also become a big hit. The illustrations are wonderfull in both books. The story of Wild About You is about acceptance and family bonds which my grandson probably does not comprehend yet but that does not hinder his enjoyment of this beautiful book.

Best Gift Ever!

This book was given to my daughter as a gift from her preK teacher. We are an adoptive family through foster care and as I innocently sat down to read her new book, I found myself teary and emotional. This book says it perfectly. This will be n my list of favorite adoption-themed books for kids from now on!

It wasn't until I read it that I realized it is an adorable story about adoption with cute and colorful illustrations

I found this book by accident when I was in a store browsing one day. It wasn't until I read it that I realized it is an adorable story about adoption with cute and colorful illustrations. Not only did I get a copy for my sister and her husband who are adopting twins, but I also got a copy for my kids to help them understand what adoption is. Super-cute book!

This is such a sweet story with beautiful pictures

This is such a sweet story with beautiful pictures. Especially great book to give to an adoptive family as the happy ending involves an animal family adoption.

Cute adoption story that's fun to read over and over (and you will be asked to!)

We picked this up in the library completely randomly and brought it home. It immediately became our bedtime favorite! Everyone in the zoo is having babies but a few animal parents are feeling left out and end up adopting babies of different species. Everyone pitches in to make the new parents and babies comfortable and work out the kinks (like the penguin that was hatched in a tree). My favorite part is actually near the beginning when the crocodiles talk about how much trouble kids are but are sure to add "but we love them completely!". Coincidentally my daughter will soon have an adopted cousin, so the subject matter is especially appropriate for us, but this is a great one for any family.

Love it

I have been looking for books to help explain adoption to our son. I came across this book by accident and it is a great start to explaining the concept of adoption to my son. There are animals at the zoo that can't have their own babies and adopt eggs.

Book about Adoption?

THis is a lovely book. Beautiful illustrations. Infertility and adoption story???
The pandas want a baby and the tree kangaroo want a baby. The pandas get a kitten and the kangaroo gets a penguin baby. All the other animals help them raise the babies whom they 'love completely'.
