Description

"Filled with Southern charm and eccentric characters, this eagerly awaited sequel is sure to please fans of the author's first novel as well as fans of women's fiction writers like Adriana Trigiani and Fannie Flagg.'' - Library Journal LISA PATTON spent over twenty years in the music industry before discovering her passion for novel writing. A breast cancer survivor, Lisa is now the bestselling author of WHISTLIN’ DIXIE IN A NOR’EASTER and YANKEE DOODLE DIXIE. Both novels have been featured on the Southern Independent Booksellers Alliance (SIBA) Bestseller List and in 2010 Lisa was selected by Target as an Emerging Author. SOUTHERN AS A SECOND LANGUAGE is the third and final book in what Library Journal calls, “the beloved Dixie series.” Lisa’s fourth novel, RUSH, set inside a fictional sorority house at Ole Miss, provides not only a gaze inside the most exclusive sorority Recruitment in the country, but at the lives of both the sisters and the all African American staff.Born and raised in Memphis, Lisa spent time as a Vermont innkeeper until three sub-zero winters sent her speeding back down South. The proud mother of two sons and a little Havanese pooch named Rosie, she and her husband live in Nashville, Tennessee.

Item was used. Badly.

Thought I was buying a new book. It was used. Badly. Cover damage. Stained pages. Ugh. Used copy was more than if I bought it new. Just ugh.

Maybe 3 1/2 stars?

I am hesitant to give 4 because this sequel didn't have the spark that "Whistin' Dixie in a Nor'Easter" did. That being said, it is still a good read, altho' a bit slow to get and keep my interest. Leelee is still so likeable, and the cast of characters that are her bff's are a hoot. I adore Kissie. I do wish there would have been more about the start up of the new Peach Blossom Inn. Maybe another sequel is needed?

NOTE TO AUTHOR - One does not REPLACE a pet who has died. It cannot be done and I was offended that you even suggested that in your book. I have had the joy of 5 Yorkies in my life. Each one came at a time when new life was needed to mend some very broken hearts. Each one soon captured our hearts, taking over our home and lives. They all made their own place. You did redeem yourself somewhat when Leelee got another dog. It was cute and funny, and I thought well done.

Great book for someone from the Memphis area

I have read all three books in this series and thoroughly enjoyed them. I happened upon the first book in the series at a library book sale. Then I went to Amazon to find used copies of books 2 and 3. So many places mentioned in the books are real places in and around the Memphis area. It is a story of love between a Southern lady and a Northern gentleman.
