My NP Bible

This is my fourth, maybe fifth copy of this book, first of this edition. I keep giving my copies away to people who are just discovering the national parks. I have several, I mean SEVERAL, other books on the national parks and none of them compare to this. I love that there is a map of each park that is essentially exactly like what you get at the parks. But mostly, I love it for the hike recommendations. The "don't miss" hikes are spot on! There is a table of hikes for each park with a difficulty rating, short description and milage. This takes all the guesswork of where to start and what to see. We keep this in our car or RV every time we head to a park, it's priceless.

The best of the best

This, to me, is the best book to plan visiting any or all the national parks. Even just having all the park maps are worth it, but they have just about everything else, too. The lists of hikes, camping....anything you need. Still good to visit websites, but to plan, dream, and figure things out for a visit, this is THE best guide.

The only thing I wish is if you wrote one for national monuments, or national seashore, or national historic sites.....please consider doing another! Please!

Unacceptable packaging for paperback book

Was excited to give this book a a gift, but… it arrived very damaged due to a complete failure in proper packaging. The book was simply tossed in too big of a box where it slid around during transit and got hung up and bent by the flaps of the box on the inside. Completely unacceptable. Buyer beware.
This review is only about the packaging and shipping of the book.
The content of the book itself is great- I own a prior edition already and love it.

The Best National Park Guide Book

I have gotten every edition of this book and it is simply the best. All the detail you could possibly want on every park is included and this book is essential for planning your park trip.

I am working on visiting all the parks (I’m currently at 44/63) and I’ve used this book to plan my visit to every one of them.

Best National Paeks guide ever!

Mike has outdone himself again, a home run guide. He has been there and has many great suggestions. We have used his guides as we toured so many of our national parks. Without any reservations I recommend this guide.

Organized & Informative

My favorite part about this book, is that the author grouped everything into categories & location, etc. I had a list of adventures/sights I wanted to see in Death Valley & Joshua Tree, but only a couple days in each park during a last minute trip. I was able to compare my wish list to the regions the author broke down into sections, then cross referenced that to the camping, hiking, etc that was also listed by region. In addition to those lists & suggestions by category, there are also sections for backpacking, off-roading, biking, flora & fauna, pets, sunrise/sunset views, etc. Hikes are broken down not only by region, but also by difficulty as well as what time of day to do the activities based on season. There are tips of where to get gas, water, what to do if you’re just passing through & have limited time… The maps are more detailed than the parks are reflected in my road atlas, so was easy to advance plan routes into each park since cell service is spotty. The only additions I would love to see would be spiral bound for ease of use on the road &/or space in the binding where the maps across 2 pages meet & you lose a smidge of detail in the spine (I’ve included a photo example). Nothing that warrants removing a star from my review though!

Spine broke at first use, pages falling out now

2nd time opening book on day it was delivered it’s own weight broke spine in half. Impossible to now use without doing further damage. As pages are turned they are loosened further. Missed the window to return it for refund so are stuck with it. Will buy a different book made better.
