Description

Clearly one epic novel could never contain the hugely disgusting tale of the Bionic Booger Boy; it makes perfect sense that his story would spill out into Dav Pilkey's seventh epic novel in the Captain Underpants series, Captain Underpants and the Big, Bad Battle of the Bionic Booger Boy Part 2: The Revenge of the Ridiculous Robo-Boogers . It all started in the sixth epic novel when Melvin Sneedly, a nerd, invented a "combine-o-thingy" that morphed Melvin, a robot, and (accidentally) mucus from his sneeze and created the monstrous Bionic Booger Boy. Unfortunately, in the chaos that ensues, the school principal Mr. Krupp's brain switches to Melvin's body and vice versa (making for a very unhappy school secretary). The diabolical Melvin becomes power-hungry when he realizes that he might be able to keep Mr. Krupp's Captain Underpants superpowers for himself! Can George and Harold stop Melvin from tyrannizing the school--and the world--in his new guise as principal and superhero? Pilkey's heavily illustrated books with comic-book inserts, "flip-o-rama" animation, and loads of gross-out humor are guaranteed to delight elementary-school boys. (Ages 8 and older) --Karin Snelson The Critics are Crazy about Captain Underpants! "Combines empowerment and empathy with age-appropriate humor and action" - Booklist"Celebrates the triumph of the good-hearted."- The Educational Book and Media Association"(One of the) 5 Books That All Children Should Read" - Healthy Family Matters"They'll (parents) appreciate children laughing as they dive in and page through this old-fashioned thing called a book." - The New York Times"For every downtrodden fun-seeking kid who never wanted to read a book."- School Library Journal When Dav Pilkey was a kid, he was diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia. Dav was so disruptive in class that his teachers made him sit out in the hallway every day. Luckily, Dav loved to draw and make up stories. He spent his time in the hallway creating his own original comic books—the very first adventures of Dog Man and Captain Underpants. In college, Dav met a teacher who encouraged him to illustrate and write. He won a national competition in 1986 and the prize was the publication of his first book, WORLD WAR WON. He made many other books before being awarded the 1998 California Young Reader Medal for DOG BREATH, which was published in 1994, and in 1997 he won the Caldecott Honor for THE PAPERBOY. THE ADVENTURES OF SUPER DIAPER BABY, published in 2002, was the first complete graphic novel spin-off from the Captain Underpants series and appeared at #6 on the USA Today bestseller list for all books, both adult and children’s, and was also a New York Times bestseller. It was followed by THE ADVENTURES OF OOK AND GLUK: KUNG FU CAVEMEN FROM THE FUTURE and SUPER DIAPER BABY 2: THE INVASION OF THE POTTY SNATCHERS, both USA Today bestsellers. The unconventional style of these graphic novels is intended to encourage uninhibited creativity in kids. His stories are semi-autobiographical and explore universal themes that celebrate friendship, tolerance, and the triumph of the good-hearted. Dav loves to kayak in the Pacific Northwest with his wife. Read more

Read Something Else

Santa brought this book to our son, since he thinks most books are "boring". We suppose the elves at the North Pole figured that anytime you have a fun cartoon graphic and the word "underpants", you can get a boy to read it. But what we've found is bad grammer and humor right to the edge or even over the edge of appropriate. We are not prudes, but at least get the spelling and grammer right. It IS possible to be funny without destroying the English language. We are recommending Santa take this one off the list for young boy's next year.

Neat , Nasty & Naughty

Yes, it took something totally "disgusting" to get my seven year old hooked on reading......but hey, I am not complaining. He is now carrying a book wherever he goes....who would have thought? When someone can get a kid to pick up a book and take along instead of the game boy.....well....just amazing!

They are very cute and not nearly as nasty as the titles imply!

Epic battle with 4 year old that wants to know how the book ends...

So my 4 year old loves these books ever since we saw the movie in theaters. It's gotten him interested in reading and I haven't heard him laugh so much as this series of books. It's very clever and has some jokes for older kids and adults (nothing too crude), but my MIL wanted to read a few after reading these to my oldest son. Just a heads up, since it's a chapter book, younger kids don't quite get the 'one more chapter... please!' doesn't work after you've read 5 chapters and they want to know what's going to happen.

Stinker

It's weird. I mean, the charaters are bad. I like the funny stuff, but, you get the feeling that for once, you want the bad guys to win.

A Guy In Underwear

This captain underpants is about a little boy and an adult that wears underwear. These two boys name George and Harold switched their prinsiple and some dorky kid name Melvi. George and Harold switched their brains accidently. So now Mr. Krupp their principal has his brain in Melvin and Melvin has his brain in Mr. Krupp's.
In this book I liked how George and Harold reacted when Mr. Krupp act's like a little kid, and how Melvin act's like is that he is mean all the time to others.
I would rcommened this book to others becaues to me I think this book is funny and very interesting.

Kid loves these

My kid loves the Captain Underpants series. Only two problems though:

1) Why does anyone want to read about a cartoon character running around in their underpants?
2) My son reads them so fast we have to order in bulk.

Seriously, my son used to hate reading but read multiple books in the series at a record pace. I wish I had called Guiness Book of World records but who knew? I didn't even think he would finish one without being forced to read. +1 for the wife. Good decision.

My son LOVES these books

My son absolutely loves Captain Underpants. He has read all 12 of the books that are out right now plus the activity books and art books that go along with the series. I will continue to buy him the new books as they come out and we are going to see the movie together. He was six when he started reading them and is 7 now. He is a bit of an advanced reader for his age but these would be somewhere in the neighborhood of 3rd grade reading level.

Great for the elementary set

I bought these books for my 6 year old grandson. He loves them! They are funny for the elementary set and well written. If you can laugh at potty humor your child will enjoy these books.

Fabulous read for little boys

Engaging, fast moving and always brings laughter from my grandson. He is 6 years old reading at a third grade level because of the diverse library we have supplied since birth. Typically we purchase life-learning or scientific merit based books for educational and growth purposes but this series is one of his favorite. It keeps bringing him back for more. His first grade classmates love these books and can master them quite well. They are wholesome with great illustrations. They capture the children's attention and present stories about what children think and actually talk about in those naive, sweet growing years. Besides his entire "Captain Underpants" collection, my grandson also enjoy Mary Pope Osborne's "Magic Tree House" collections. He has all of them. If you want to inspire a child to read either of these fine authors collections will do it.
