Description

From School Library Journal Gr 1–4—Fifth graders George and Harold, inspired by reading classic literature in school, have finished their third "Dog Man" graphic novel. A cop with the head of a canine and the body of a policeman, Dog Man fights crime while trying hard to be a good boy. As in the earlier installments, he defends his city from a daunting array of bad guys. Flippy the fish returns as an evil cyborg to ravage the city with an army of Beasty Buildings, and Petey the mad scientist cat clones himself and causes double trouble for our dogged hero. Though George and Harold are a bit older and "totally mature" now, their artwork remains charmingly childlike, with bold outlines and colorful simple backgrounds, and their dialogue retains its amusing misspellings and quirky syntax. Madcap action and general silliness abound on every page. The book is filled with laugh-out-loud situations, puns, delightful Flip-o-Rama animations, and a lot of licking and chewing on furniture—enough to keep even the most jaded young reader enthralled. VERDICT Pilkey has done it again. This latest installment is just as "supa" funny and irreverent as the first two volumes in the series. Sure to be popular, it's a great choice for elementary school graphic novel collections and of particular interest to reluctant readers and fans of the series.—Kelley Gile, Cheshire Public Library, CT Everyone Digs Dog Man! * "Striking color, interactive pages, drawing tutorials, and a plethora of laugh-out-loud moments all work to keep readers’ attention on a tight leash." -- Kirkus Reviews , starred review * "High-intensity, heartwarming, and, above all, hysterically funny." -- Kirkus Reviews , starred review * "Riotously funny and original." -- School Library Journal , starred review * "An utter, unfettered delight." -- Booklist , starred review * "Readers (of any age) will be giggling from start to finish." -- Publishers Weekly , starred review * "Action-oriented cartoons... Dav was so disruptive in class that his teachers made him sit out in the hallway every day. Luckily, Dav loved to draw and make up stories. He spent his time in the hallway creating his own original comic books—the very first adventures of Dog Man and Captain Underpants. In college, Dav met a teacher who encouraged him to illustrate and write. He won a national competition in 1986 and the prize was the publication of his first book, WORLD WAR WON. He made many other books before being awarded the 1998 California Young Reader Medal for DOG BREATH, which was published in 1994, and in 1997 he won the Caldecott Honor for THE PAPERBOY. The Adventures of Super Diaper Baby, published in 2002, was the first complete graphic novel spin-off from the Captain Underpants series and appeared at #6 on the USA Today bestseller list for all books, both adult and children’s, and was also a New York Times bestseller. It was followed by The Adventures of Ook and Gluk: Kung Fu Cavemen from the Future and Super Diaper Baby 2: The Invasion of the Potty Snatchers, both USA Today bestsellers. The unconventional style of these graphic novels is intended to encourage uninhibited creativity in kids. His stories are semi-autobiographical and explore universal themes that celebrate friendship, tolerance, and the triumph of the good-hearted. Dav loves to kayak in the Pacific Northwest with his wife. Read more

Features & Highlights

  • A cute kitten disrupts Petey's plans in the third Dog Man book from worldwide bestselling author and artist Dav Pilkey.
  • He was the best of dogs... He was the worst of dogs... It was the age of invention... It was the season of surprise... It was the eve of supa sadness... It was the dawn of hope... Dog Man hasn't always been a paws-itive addition to the police force. While he can muzzle miscreants, he tends to leave a slick of slobber in his wake! This time, Petey the Cat's dragged in a tiny bit of trouble -- a double in the form of a kitten clone. Dog Man will have to work twice as hard to bust these furballs and remain top dog!
  • Dav Pilkey's wildly popular Dog Man series appeals to readers of all ages and explores universally positive themes, including empathy, kindness, persistence, and the importance of being true to one's self.

Another masterpiece by Dav Pilkey

[[VIDEOID:911b5adb46ba48077776b26718a9c89d]] My son love Dav Pilkeys Book series from Captain Underpants to Dog Man. When number 9 came out late August had to get it. Unfortunately he read through them pretty fast. But he reads it over and over when he gets bored.
It's a great value when you can get your kids to sit still and quietly read. Occasionally hear his laughter.
Definately recommend to any kids that enjoy to laugh and like silly humor "Professor Poopypants".

My Little Guy's Favorite

My son (8) was a reluctant reader so I thought I would give graphic novels a try and everything changed for us. During the school week ( we home school) I have a 20 minute silent, independent reading time during the day and it was always a battle before. Now that we have graphic novels he reads for as long as an hour or more sometimes. Dog Man is by far his favorite of all of them. I can hear him cracking up when he's in there reading. He was on pins and needles waiting for this one to come out and has read it multiple time already. Thank you Dav Pilkey for making my son into a reader.
