Clare kept me anxiously reading

In Book 4, “City of Fallen Angels,” Jace’s soul had been interchangeably mixed with Sebastian’s due to black magic. Sebastian has been raised from the dead, and is forever linked with Jace. Thus, whatever is done to hurt or kill Sebastian would also hurt or kill Jace.

In “City of Lost Souls,” the Clave has no qualms about killing both Sebastian and Jace, for the safety of their world. However, Clary, Isabelle, Alec, Magnus and Simon have other plans, and are desperately searching for Jace without Clave permission. They are convinced something can be done to separate their souls and save Jace from Sebastian’s evil influence, but time is running out and they have still not reached a solution.

Headstrong as usual, Clary allows herself to be taken by the newly possessed Jace to a world between dimensions. There, she finds he and Sebastian working together to destroy the world and implement a new world order of demons. Once she finds out Sebastian plans, Clary realizes there’s nothing she can do with that knowledge as her communication with the other Shadowhunters has been severed. Sebastian will stop at nothing to get what he wants and, with both of them as possessions, Clary begins to realize there is no hope.

Once again, Cassandra Clare kept me anxiously reading and impatiently waiting for the next book in the series “City of Heavenly Fire,” expected in March 2014. A great read for grades 9-12.
