I was pretty dissappointed in these readers

I was pretty dissappointed in these readers. There are only 2-3 words per page. I bought them for my emerging reader...and these were WAY too basic. I was bummed because they didn't indicate anywhere in the description that they were that simple. I much prefer Scholastic "Sight Word Readers" (Sight-Word based) and the "I can Read!"(Phonics based) series.

Appropriate, Enjoyable, Longer Words, Excellent Pictures & Nice Quality Readers!

First of the ABCD set of Guided Science Readers and appropriate for beginning readers. The A readers are very simple ideas about nature/animals but the words aren't so simple, so instead of a lot of two or three letter words, the child is taught to read only a few four or five letter words right from the beginning in repetition style (which is fine so not to intimidate a new reader who is reading more than simple words right from the beginning.) Pictures above words are clear photos and appropriate and match the words. Would recommend for a reader who knows the alphabet and a few shorter Pre K - Kindergarten sight words and some sounds that some letters make (phonics). The A readers are eight pages long and good for children's small hands (5 and 1/2" by 5 and 1/2" or 14cm by 14cm), but again not to intimidate and remain approachable and enjoyable while encouraging. Covers are card stock and pages are glossy and are about as thick as typing paper and the edges are sewn, nice touch. These will last through several readings and can be stored in the matching sturdy cardboard box. Animal reward stickers and an activity book are included which further encourage learning and very early reading comprehension skills! Bought the remaining three sets after buying the A reader. Recommend for any child who is learning how to read!

There are better, sight word book sets, out there

Not a good tool for teaching sight words. When children are learning sight words there are a set of specific words they start off learning. Words such as “like”, “I”, “see”, “the”. These particular books do not utilize many of the beginner words and instead jump into other words like “hello” and “love”. Since I didn’t see much info on this book set I took a chance and regret it.

Adorable confidence builders for early readers

My 5-year-old finally started to take an interest in reading, and I wanted something that wasn't the typical "see Spot run" book to help him develop confidence in his reading ability. He knows tons of sight words, but it just hasn't been at the top of his priority queue to put those words together in sentences and start reading whole books.

These are eight-page books with simple words and pictures that match the story, and with very little help, my son was able to read all sixteen of them to me. If your child absolutely hates doing anything they aren't instantly good at, and that's been getting in the way of them learning to read, this kind of book might be exactly what you're looking for. Having gotten his confidence up, he's on to level B books, and is demanding more and more practice time reading with Mom and Dad. This set may not have a very long shelf life in our house, but it was precisely what we needed. I'm very satisfied, and the books are cute.

Disappointed in the lack of representation of children of all cultures and all colors.

[[VIDEOID:dba566d36b05eed73daf3d6355582162]] Scholastic needs to get with the times. ALL children deserve to be represented equally and should definitely be able to see themselves in ALL educational material.
It’s lazy, thoughtless and extremely tone-deaf, parents of all colors and teachers who teach children of all colors want to offer their children material that they see themselves in, especially at the ages this product was made for.

Great Purchase 3 YR Old Approved

My 3 year old loved these. He was able to read a few of these with minimal help from me. These books are also about animals he's interested in. It comes with a little activity book and stickers. He needed help with that but he still enjoyed the stickers. Highly recommend.

books looked kind of dumb, but my friend recommended them

Ok, so I was a little skeptical: books looked kind of dumb, but my friend recommended them. My son LOVES them!!! It is impossible to get him to try and read ANYTHING, but he LOVES these little books and even picks them up to read on his own. Awesome job Scholastic!

Good easy books for preschool-K readers

These were great to get my kindergartner reading independently. They are pretty easy and short by kindergarten standards, so I think would be great for preschoolers or even younger as well. Good quality and nice box to keep them in.

My 3 year old niece thinks these are the best non-Frozen books ever

My 3 year old niece thinks these are the best non-Frozen books ever. Except for the Owly series which she loves because she can "read" a whole pretty complicated story on her own. But she's learning to read with these books, and they are of high interest to her.
