Nice illustrations with atrocious Spanish grammatical sense.

As a Spanish native speaker who was looking for English and Spanish versions of books for kids for my daughter, I have to say I’m extremely disappointed with the Spanish translation. The illustration and story that the book tries to convey are nice. However, the Spanish used in this book makes no grammatical sense. Sure, sounds good and makes it “sound like” you are speaking Spanish but only few sentences are correct throughout the entire book. It makes me sad to see that this book had no proper native speaker editing/translation or if it did it was done from someone with not much knowledge of Spanish grammar (or how else do you explain this?)

Staring with the title, you’d never say in Spanish “La llama llama rojo pijama”. What does this even mean? Yes, it rhymes but it’s fully made up wording, gibberish. It makes NO sense in Spanish. Grammatically, the title should maybe “La llama con pijama roja” or something similar.

If you get the Spanish version of this book you’ll have fun with the illustrations and story just know that the Spanish the book uses is disappointing (but if Spanish is your second language you may not even notice).

I returned the book.

El reflejo de mis noches

Veo muchas de mis noches reflejadas en este libro. Mi hija no se canse de escucharlo, le gusta mucho. Tiene letras grandes y oraciones cortas que hacen llamativas las paginas y lo hacen un cuento corto pero lleno de color. Muchas veces lo hemos leidos dos y tres veces en una sola noche. Queda muy recomendado.

Not for attachment parents

The book was a bit aggressive for my taste and for parents who practice attachment parenting. I wouldn’t recommend this. As soon as I took it out my toddler didn’t want to read it either as the front page seemed to scare her a bit.

Baby llama has to cry it out

The story line is about how the baby llama cries and cries for its mama to come when the baby is scared at night. When the mama finally comes, she firsts reprimands the baby for crying. Message of underlying cry-it-out philosophy that the child is bad for being scared of being by himself and wanting the comfort of his mother and that the child’s crying is a major nuisance. I found it very distasteful and am returning the book.

Such a great book!!

I am a Latina mom, married to a white guy and our little kids only speak English. This story is a great way to reintroduce some Spanish while keeping it interesting for my kids! It’s cute, relatable, and the illustrations are adorable. My kids love having me read it to them, and I hope it gets them more interested in speaking Spanish too!

Perfect translation

Love this book. Very easy read and the translation is perfect unlike other books whose editors clearly use google translate and let everything get lost in translation. This book is a wonderful read and i read it at least three times a day

Love this book

Our son is bilingual so we bought this book in both Spanish & English. The translation is not word-for-word but that’s because things have to rhyme. Highly recommend, very fun book!!

Bad translation

Spanish translation not correct — red pajama should be “pijama roja” not “rojo pijama” — makes for awkward reading and it comes up over and over !!
