The Academy-Award winning actress and avid foodie shares a sumptuous collection of recipes and gorgeous photographs celebrating the joy of preparing food for loved ones, a passion she learned from her beloved father. As an actress, author, trendsetter, creator of goop.com, and host of the popular PBS series, Spain: On the Road Again , Gwyneth Paltrow is an icon of style and good taste around the world. As a young girl eating and cooking with her father, Bruce Paltrow, she developed a passion for food that has shaped how she lives today and strengthened her belief that time with family is a priority. Now in MY FATHER'S DAUGHTER, Paltrow shares her favorite family recipes along with personal stories of growing up with her father, Bruce Paltrow. She discusses how he has influenced her in the food she loves, how she involves her kids in cooking, and how she balances healthy food with homemade treats. And, for the first time, Paltrow offers a glimpse into her life as daughter, mother and wife, sharing her thoughts on the importance of family and togetherness. Complete with 150 delicious ideas for breakfast, sandwiches and burgers, soups, salads, main dishes, sides, and desserts, this beautifully illustrated book includes full-color photos throughout, many featuring Paltrow at home with her family and friends. MY FATHER'S DAUGHTER is a luscious collection that will inspire readers to cook great food with the people who mean the most to them. Recipe Excerpts from My Father's Daughter Blueberry Pavlova Bruce's Dip Chicken & Dumplings From Publishers Weekly Award-winning actress and mother of two, Paltrow pays posthumous tribute to her much-adored father who passed along to her a deep love and appreciation for good food. From an early age, she was his eager eating companion and developed a diverse palate that relished everything from egg creams to oysters to blue cheese. Their dining ventures morphed into joint cooking get-togethers where dad instilled the notion that a meal made for one's family is an expression of love. This is evident in the simple and mostly healthy recipes she shares, as prepared for family and friends, in this warm and inviting collection. Paltrow showcases a wealth of dishes, from soups to pastas to main courses and more. Highlights include fried rice with kale and scallions, sole à la grenobloise, and her mother's blueberry muffins. A helpful pantry section includes recipes for basics such as slow-roasted tomatoes and numerous types of stocks. While many recipes are vegetarian, Paltrow does include meat dishes, including cheesy stuffed burgers and cassoulet. Her chapter on side dishes is superb and appealing enough to take center stage, especially her sautéed greens with onions and soy sauce, maple-Dijon roasted winter vegetables, and crispy potato and garlic cakes. Filled with charming personal anecdotes, this book convinces that healthy food can be delicious as well as good for you—and that a father's passion can endure. (Apr.) (c) Copyright PWxyz, LLC. My kids don't like the recipes

I bought it because of the raving reviews but my kids have not liked any of the recipes. I have tried several of the recipes and they just don't taste very good. I will try another recipe tomorrow. Wish me luck.

Ten hour chicken overcooked

I have tried just one recipe but the results were not inspiring. Ten-hour chicken turned out overcooked and flavorless. What a waste of an organic bird!

disappointing

I tried a variety of recipes from this book and all but the salad dressings were disappointing. The roast chicken was a disaster - very dry and flavorless. The author has a comfortable style of writing but I think the recipes should have been tested more carefully. Get the book at the library if you are a fan and want to read it but I cannot recommend purchasing it.

I Love, Love, Love This Book!

I never gave Gwyneth much thought until I saw her on Glee playing the cool, sassy Spanish teacher. Then while walking by the tapas place at The Grove I saw a video of her and Mario Batali touring the food of Spain. I was captivated. I love looking at food and I even more enjoy looking at food in exotic places. When I got home I Googled it to find out more about it and stumbled upon Gwyneth cooking fish with salsa verde on a British show. She was great. I had no idea she was a cook. I quickly made the fish and a winter vegetables recipe that she said complemented the fish. Then I found out about her book and waited for it to come out. I liked it so much I bought my sister a copy who I thought would also like it. I won't buy a cookbook unless it has great pictures. I want to see delicious food and I want to see it in a surrounding that compliments the food. Otherwise...I just won't cook it. Nothing inspires me more than actually 'seeing' something delicious. I also enjoyed reading the book, which I rarely do with a cookbook, and learning how Gwyneth seeks out becoming informed about food and healthy cooking for her family. She made a lot of good points and cooks in a way that I relate to. I actually wanted to build a stone pizza oven after I read her talking about it (which hasn't happened yet...yet).

Some people give her slack for her website, Goop, because a lot of the things that she lists are expensive...well, what did you think? Gwyneth Paltrow shops at Kmart? She tells you all the secrets of how someone dresses like her, looks like her, eats like her, shops like her, so you can have that too, if you want it. Anyone who had delusions that celebrities get that way cheaply or easily is out of their mind. That's why celebrities have to actually WORK to get the way they are. I lived with two celebrities and I saw that what they have to do for their career could make them crazy. I've seen Matthew McConaughey on more than one occasion running UP Runyon Canyon (a mountain) with two huge rocks in his hands, which I've never seen anyone else do, because, it's crazy. But that's why he looks the way he does. He works hard at it.

So, I even more admire Gwyneth for her love of food and that she takes the time out of her busy schedule to make her family good, healthy meals, and raises her children with an appreciation for cooking good food. That's a good mom.

I Actually Use This Cookbook

I've had this cookbook for 9 months now and I wanted to try several of the recipes to write a fair review. I never would have considered buying this but after a dinner party where a friend made Gwyneth's Turkey Bolognese with pasta, I ordered a copy. This sauce is so easy to make, delicious, and makes your home smell so good. I don't use store bought sauce anymore. I've made this at least 5x now, and in my efforts to eat lighter, I don't miss out on any flavor in using turkey over beef.
I've also made her Kale Fried Rice With Scallions, Best Stir-Fried Chicken, Peanut Butter Cookies, My Ivy Chopped Salad, and Mac 'n' Cheese. All are very good and I'd make them again. With the ease of finding recipes online for free, this is the one cookbook I constantly go back to for more. Sure it's highbrow with some ingredients, stories, and name-dropping, but I expected that. Some of the recipes are so basic and unoriginal, it's like she thinks she's so clever for having thought them up, ie Challah French Toast. It lists the ingredient, "one banana, peeled". Seriously? Who eats the peel?? Nonetheless, I love this cookbook, the photos, and mostly healthy recipes. There's even fried food in here, *gasp!*

Fabulous Contemporary Family Recipes

Ok, just admit it- Gwyneth Paltrow is a triple threat actress/ Oscar winner, singer, blog authoress (Goop) and former GF of Brad Pitt and current Mrs. Chris Martin. And she can cook, too? Envy, anyone? Ok, gals, take off your green-hued glasses and put on your aprons 'cause Gwyneth CAN cook. This lovely book is a go-to guide for contemporary family recipes with a healthy dose of inspiration, all wrapped in memorable, meaningful stories of food and family. I freely confess to being the archetypal "daddy's girl" as does Gwyneth; it makes for a strong foundation and confidence in life that is a priceless gift. Therefore, the book's role as both a repository of recipes and touching stories about her Dad and his creative joy at cooking and eating resonated with me, especially since the book is part tribute to her father who has passed away. I'm quite sure Bruce Paltrow is looking down and applauding this collection of recipes; I'm looking forward to trying almost everything. Cookbooks can have great stories, but if the recipes don't deliver, it doesn't see much cooking time. This book is definitely not in this category; in just a couple of months since owning this book, I've been pleased with every recipe I've tried: white bean soup, gazpacho, no-fry fries, roast chicken, and the incredible "Bruce Paltrow's World-Famous Pancakes," which are worth the price of the book alone, they're sooo good. I'm looking forward to trying the fish tacos next; it is a fun, fabulous cookbook that's inspiring with its approach to mostly healthy, nutritious recipes (occasional indulgences are allowed!) with quality ingredients and straightforward prep. Gwyneth has even given a page tribute and photo to her recipe tester and culinary sidekick, Julia Turshen. Pretty cool. So, crank up "Country Strong" on the ipod and get your pans out- we may not be movie stars, but now we can eat like one!

Umm, Gwyneth doesn't pay for shoes

She doesn't have to. I would like to warn any potential readers who are buying this book looking for nudity, you'll be disappointed.

When you get to the level of a Gwyneth the world is your oyster. And that's how she knows how to give you the best recipe for oysters. I frequently imagine that Chris Martin and Gwyneth and I are best friends and some days we just pick a random page out of this book and Gwyneth agrees to prepare the meal while Chris walks lightly over to the piano and plays his heartfelt anthems to loneliness, depression and emotional detachment. And I just sit there with a big grin like the cat who has eaten the canary. But I don't think Gwyneth has a recipe for canary. LOL.

When I was younger, my parents made me cook most of the meals. I quickly learned how to make omelets, croquettes and lots of mayonnaise based dishes. In fact, I made my own mayonnaise by hand in our basement when no one else was home. I can't tell you how much sweat went into producing it. Funny enough, I would often think of Gwyneth while I was making my artisan mayo. It's that one scene in "Tenenbaums" where she comes to the apartment window -- real fans will know what I'm talking about. Thank you, GP!

DANGER: DO NOT FOLLOW CHICKEN HANDLING INSTRUCTIONS FROM THIS BOOK!

I can not stress this enough, this book omits the proper internal temperature to ensure all of the potentially dangerious bacteria has been killed and recommends washing the chicken which does NOTHING but spread the dangerous and potentially life threatening baccteria found in poultry around your kitchen.

Yum-pancakes

I am not a GOOP follower but I do like this recipe book and style of cooking. My favorite recipe is Gwenyth's pancake recipe she got from her Dad. It is outstanding and I will never make pancakes again unless I use this recipe. Awesome

Skeptical at first, but really fell in love with the recipes.

I like Gwyneth as an actress but wasn't completely sold on her as a cook. After reading through her very touching cookbook, full of not just a love of food, but a deep love of family, this has probably become one of my favorite cookbooks -- if not THE favorite. Every recipe I've tried has turned out delicious! My son said that the chicken stir-fry was the "best thing he's ever eaten." I highly recommend this cookbook. Not just for its incredible food ideas but for the tremendous love Gwyneth describes for her dear father. A daddy's girl at heart, I was so moved by this loving tribute to Bruce Paltrow.
