Even More Addicting Than the First One
Perilous Light is the second book in the Afterglow series, and it is even more addicting than the first one. The biggest mistake I made was picking this book up when I had plans within a couple hours. It was hard trying to put it down to get ready. Just like in the first book, Beckoning Light, the viewpoints alternate among Charlotte, Kevin, and sometimes Calvin. With the different events and travels during this book, the multiple viewpoints allow readers to follow them all. Each chapter is titled with the speaker so it is not confusing to the reader.
In Perilous Light, the story finds us one year later after the events of the first book. Charlotte is trying function in her life, without Calvin, just waiting for the day to go back to Energo. When the Resistance requires their help, Charlotte, Kevin and the others have no choice, but to go back. Once in Energo, Kevin and Charlotte separate to complete individual tasks with the aid of their friends. Both must succeed or they stand no chance to defeat Blake, who has taken control of Energo.
Through the viewpoints of Charlotte, Kevin, and Calvin, the reader gets to see both the journeys of Charlotte and Kevin, and the evil plans of Blake. I like this because it creates a well-rounded story, but it is not confusing. Once I read the first few pages, I was hooked right back into the world that Alyssa Rose Ivy has created. I loved Beckoning Light, but I loved Perilous Light even more. Do not start this book if you have other things to do that day, because this book will consume your attention.
The action is defiantly more prevalent in this book, but that is a very good thing. I still love the sibling relationship between Kevin and Charlotte, even if I did not get to see a lot of it in this book. This is because Kevin and Charlotte spend a lot of the book away from each other. This series is worth your time, and if Perilous Light is any example, the third book in the Afterglow Trilogy is going to blow my mind.

Perilous Light continues more secrets and danger
Full, non-spoiler review courtesy at ~ Book & Movie Dimension a Blog ~
A while back had mentioned that Perilous Light was one of those novels that was highly anticipating. Once it finally arrived can happily mention is a read that devoured in about 11 hours. Needless to say in a day! It was one of those novels that hits you with an intense sensation to read through without stopping since you want to absorb it as soon as possible. The entire time in reading was held captivated which was helped by Aylssa's interesting and creative fantasy world building. Oh yeah there were some new characters and new relationships which were a wonder to read into. If you happened to have reached in reading Beckoning Light (The Afterglow Trilogy #1) by Alyssa Rose Ivy and found it to your liking then continue it with Perilous Light. Contains quite a few surprises that pop-up!
In the Afterglow Trilogy #2, Perilous Light , the story keeps on spinning again. Charlotte had to leave Calvin behind in Energo so its no secret Charlotte mourns him. Charlotte though has to hold her ground to make a point to Calvin she is the one to believe and not Blake. So if he doesn't she can't be at his side. Still their being apart is wearing on them both. While Kevin is begining to feel that basketball just doesn't carry the same appeal it used to be.
Kevin knows his real duty lies with protecting his sister Charlotte as her Guardian warrior. So when he gets ambushed by old Guardians of Charlotte's mother who happened to be an Essence too, it just makes Charlotte as well as Kevin realize they have to return to Energo to see what in the world is going on over there.
Once there they see that Blake's number one goal at the moment is conquering lands and that his devious influence is going strong. Charlotte, Monty, Lawson: Henry's older brother, Liam, and James decide to split up to have a better chance at not only stopping but also to rescue Charlotte's mother which towards the end of Beckoning Light we learn is still alive but in a semi sedated state. Along the way, Charlotte discovers that her and Liam's spark a long time ago may have some influence over Liam's skilled archery and strength. Meanwhile, Kevin has to learn how to be a leader in front of others so he can have hope in obtaining help from other countries besides Energo to fight against Blake and his army. During their seperate journeys we get to see Charlotte and Kevin under pressure and try to handle themselves. We also get to see new places other than Energo. Some of which aren't stuck in the old days but choose to be modern and others with shapeshifters or some strange-looking beings. Fascinating to read since you really experience the develpment of Fantasy. All in all these were some of the main surprises that were interesting although there's still more in Perilous Light!
Perilous Light continues more secrets and danger only found in Fantasy that Fantasy fans who like their reads with romance should enjoy.
Overall: Amazing read!

Great second book
Book Review- Perilous Light by Alyssa Rose Ivy
It has been a year since Charlotte left Enero. It’s been difficult being away from Calvin. Liam and James have been keeping an eye on her. Henry has also infiltrated her inner circle and is dating Rachel. Kevin is at college playing basketball.
Charlotte knows they have to go back. The resistance needs help and they need to save her mom. It happens sooner rather than later. Charlotte, Kevin, Monty and her guardians enter the gate. They have a job to do. Charlotte is to take a group and go save her mother. Kevin is taking another group to persuade other countries belonging to the Pact to side with the resistance against Blake. He has grown stronger and darker. His powers are surprising. They need all the help they can get to defeat him.
Kevin has to blindly be the Ambassador and Charlotte has to trust in herself as the Essence. They are both tested at every turn. As they prepare for real battle they learn what they might have to sacrifice.
This is the second book in the series. The story picks up a year later. You can see how Charlotte is suffering without her Gerard. This story is full of surprises concerning Liam and what Kevin achieves. I also like that Charlotte is gaining confidence and embracing her destiny. She is my favorite character. She has had to make the tough choices.
This book is setting up for the epic battle that is coming. It gives you a little taste at the end. There are some shocking revelations from the author. This story was a good bridge of the beginning of the series, setting up for the end. I can’t wait to see how it ends. A great addition. I give it a 4 out of 5.

An exciting sequel
The second book in the Afterglow Trilogy did not disappoint. This book was filled with action, romance, and suspense. This series will appeal to Potter, Twilight, and Hunger Games fans. I cannot wait for the final book.
