Features & Highlights

  • Hell hath no fury like a ticked-off dragon…
  • Ysolde de Bouchier has a lot on her plate, which isn't unusual considering her Light Dragon mate Baltic is still at odds with just about everyone, starting with his former guard Thala and her outlaw posse, right down to his dragon god father. Ysolde herself fairs no better, since the First Dragon has her in his sights as well, demanding that she right past wrongs...and her time to do that is quickly running out. With the help of some familiar friends, Ysolde sets into motion an elaborate plan that will have repercussions throughout the mortal and immortal worlds. But when a member of her family is held hostage, no one is safe from the fire of her rage.

Love Baltic and Ysolde!

Ok first off, I agree with the first reviewer's comment. You SHOULD read the previous books before this one. In my opinion, this is not a stand-alone book and a new reader will be confused with all the characters and plots going on. There is a small guide in the back of the book that describes the previous characters, but it's not really enough. You NEED a refresh on the other stories before this one. Better yet, re-read them.

But let me say that after re-reading the earlier books, I thought this one was really funny! You'll get a nice dose of the other characters in previous books like Drake and Aisling (one of my faves!), Jim, Gabriel and May, Cyrene, Kostya, Constantine, and many more. Oh and not to mention, Pavel, Istvan, Savian, Dr. Kostich.. So by now, you can guess that there is A LOT going on in this book. If you're not fresh from reading the last book, then you'll probably be scratching your head and confused by all that's happening.

But the book is a satisfying end to the light dragon series (that is, if it is the end). I am so glad that they've wrapped up the Baltic and Ysolde plotline and resolved some of the other ones as well. You'll find out what happens to the curse on the silver dragons, what really happened during the Endless War, and more First Dragon stuff.

So I definitely recommend this book to all fans. It's funny, light-hearted, and makes me wish I was a weyr so I can find my very own Baltic or Drake!

I'd give this one five stars if I didn't have to re-read the other books!

meh

positive - a lot of humorous and likeable characters.
negative - way to much going on. I cant stress this enough.
I have read all the dragon books so far, but I am done. I believed this is the 3rd and final light dragons book. Be sure to also read the the 4 Green dragon (aisling grey) books, and the 3 silver dragon books before reading these books.

You can't start a fire without...

I'm just glad it's over. I love the Dragon Series. The Aisling Grey and Silver Dragon books are so good. The Light Dragon's however, are a hot mess. This series is dependent on Ysolde being ignorant. She doesn't remember her original past, nor does she have clear memories of her life post resurrection. The First Dragon wants her to complete a task for him, but only speaks in riddles. How can someone solve a problem when they don't even know what the problem is? They can't, and I read three books to watch Ysolde technically not complete her task.

The first problem was the First Dragon. He is the creator and Father of all the Dragon's, so why he needed Ysolde to do his dirty work was beyond me. All he had to do was say what it was he wanted and why and poof it could've been handled. My main issue with this book was why couldn't Ysolde remember anything? She did not remember her original life, and she spent the first 300 years of her resurrection with both short term and long term memory loss. Every few month's Gareth had to reintroduce her to the world like some new born baby, until Brom was born then she sort of remembered things. Why? We are never told. Everyone else who was resurrected had all of their memories intact. So what was the deal with Ysolde's brain damage? Also what was the deal with her fugue's? Why was she able to turn lead into gold during them? Does she still have that ability?

The most annoying thing about Ysolde was how much of a push over she was. She's ask someone what they were up to and the doorbell would ring and she's completely lose her train of thought. She'd ask Baltic a question and he would easily distract her with his magic penis. I mean good lord, all she needed to do was focus just a little bit. Also her whole forgive and forget attitude about being murdered was ridiculous. The more that was revealed the more outraged she should have been. Baltic was not a bad person. His lashing out and becoming the dread wyvern made perfect sense. He didn't commit any of the crimes her was accused and "convicted" of. He didn't kill any of the Blue Dragon's, he didn't start the Great Dragon War, he didn't make the Black Dragon's become some blood thirsty horde. The fact that it took a few sentences in front of the rest of the Weyr to clear that up and still no one apologized was maddening. If I was him I would have cursed all Dragon's to be mateless. Don't get me started on Ysolde not wanting to kill any Dragon's when they were constantly coming for her head, I mean self defense is important.

There are still so many character's left to find love. Hopefully the series is not over, and MacAlister goes back to her fun and fabulous style of writing.

not bad

Not bad. A good finish to the trilogy - all the loose ends are tied up, and it is amusing. Not as good as the Aisling series in my opinion, or even the first in this series, but still worth reading if you're a fan of Macalister's Dragons. Looking forward to the next.
