Features & Highlights

  • Men love shortcuts. If there's a way to accomplish a job quicker and more efficiently, they're all for it. That goes for work and working out. Now, new research shows that as little as 15 minutes of resistance training is just as effective in spiking a man's metabolism—his fat-burning furnace—as a workout lasting more than twice as long. All it takes is 15 minutes to achieve lifelong results—and men are more likely to stick to an exercise plan if it's chopped down to those 15 minutes.
  • The Men's Health Big Book of 15-Minute Workouts
  • contains fast-paced circuit training and interval workouts that boost calorie burn, build muscle, and fry belly fat in half the time of regular workouts. Readers can choose from at-home, body-weight-only workouts and total-body barbell programs to exercises that target major muscle groups—the chest, arms, legs, and back—and sport-specific workouts. Other highlights include:- a special section of 15-minute core workouts to build a rock-hard six-pack- an eating plan with delicious meals that take 15 minutes or less to prepare- workouts for the office or when you're traveling and can't make it to the gym- hundreds of tips from America's best trainers, nutritionists, and exercise scientists

Kindle Review

I've liked the Men's Health Big Books, but they are big. I tried out the Kindle edition here and it works well - all workouts and exercises are hyper linked so that you can quickly get to them. Their pictures display well on my second generation Kindle (with the keyboard). Each exercise does not fit on a single screen - even if you make the text small - which is a bummer, but less the book's fault.

This is going to be great for traveling. I already have my Kindle and in the hotel, I have many options for working out - regardless of the "fitness" room quality - and enough variety to make it interesting - just what I wanted for this book.

easy

I have always been very athletic, but sometimes I have trouble fitting in workouts. I also find that when I have time I don't know what workout to do. This book has various 15 min workouts that are easy to use and can be modified to suit your needs. The book starts out with body weight stuff and progresses to dumbbells, barbells, benches, swiss ball, medicine ball, and pull up bar. I own a power cage with a stack so I had no problem with the equipment, but even if I didn't I could get by with some dumbbells and an olympic weight set. The book also has sections on kettle bells, stretch bands, and other equipment. overall I would recommend this book, the mens health book of exercises, and the mens health body weight exercise book.

Get Ripped in the time it takes to watch an Infomercial!

I've bought a couple of very good workout books over the last year, mostly as a reference and to get new ideas, I will say that by far this book and [[ASIN:1605295507 The Men's Health Big Book of Exercises: Four Weeks to a Leaner, Stronger, More Muscular YOU!]] are two of the main ones I keep coming back to, if you are a beginner, an intermediate exerciser (I won't say bodybuilder because there aren't just exercises for building mass), or advanced there is definitely enough variety and variations of exercises pointed out in this book to keep you busy for awhile, there are also some great warmup exercises and stretches. The only downside is that someone who is new to exercising or hasn't worked out for years may not know where to start, and for that I think the Big Book of Exercises is slightly better, but in 15 minutes you could complete a workout in this book, the same length of time the latest infomercial for Exercise Product A,B, or C would be on TV (and don't get me wrong sometimes I like infomercials).

Great book

I got this as a supplement to my other workout routines. I wanted something to add variety and challenge me in different areas besides what I got with standard weight training. I have been working on the total body workouts and find many of the individual moves to be quite challenging, and the workout routines as a whole to deliver a decent cardio blast as well as fatigue the muscles intended. The recommended workout schedule is to do one routine for about 15 minutes three times a week, with a high intensity interval training routine once a week. I actually combine the 15 minute routine with a 10-15 minute ab routine for about a 30 minute workout, then on the rest days I actually do a light cardio and ab routine for about 30 minutes. I can feel and see results after only a few weeks on the program.

I think one of the things that has also fueled results is a change in diet. Like others have mentioned, I found the nutritional suggestions in the book to be a bit lacking in specificity, but in general the emphasis is on eating more protein and vegetables, reduce carbs, and snack on fruit and nuts. I have been trying to be more conscious about this and it seems to be helping reduce the "spare tire" around my waist.

Overall, I think the nutritional guidance is okay, but not great, but the workouts are really good and I'm glad I got the book. I look forward to getting into the workouts even more, maybe combining some of them for a 30-minute workout, and watching the positive results.

Great workouts

First let me say that doing one fifteen minute workout a day will not make you look as fit as the guy in the picture. However, these workouts will definitely help you get in shape and you can easily see improvements to your health by doing these workouts just fifteen minutes a day. I personally love the no gym total body workouts included in the book. I move around a lot and those workout help keep me in shape when I don't have a gym or time available to get a normal workout in.

highly recommended

Love this book of many different 15 min workouts and I've timed them - they live up to their name. And they are tough. I get a great workout in only 15 min's and if I really want to kick butt, I grab 2 of them and in 1/2 hour I am toast - more than my previous 1 hr workouts. What I like about these is I'm getting the cardio element in as they are no-rest except between circuits. Highly recommend it.

Just what you would expect in a good way

The book explains why a 15 min. workout is beneficial and then goes into a lot of exercises you can do in 15 min. with plenty of nice, color photos. I liked that the exercises can be done at home with or without simple equipment. Even better is the sections that offer different workouts for different goals (abs, or for sex improvement even).

I've done alot of exercising and lifted weights most of my life and this book still challenged me with more options. It's a good reference and highly recommended especially for the 15 min. workout in home when the person doesn't want to invest in or use heavy weights. Pleanty of exercises use only your own body weight, which is a great place to start.

Got 15 minutes...?

Yes.

The workouts work if you put in the work. (Sorry, I couldn't resist saying it.)

Start small. Ten to fifteen minutes a day may not seem enough. If you do it every day, however, it is long enough to build a habit.

Exercise as a habit is the hardest thing to cultivate and is the chief reason so many quit.

Take this book for a spin. In the beginning, it doesn't matter which workout you pick. Just get into the swing of working out.

[Note: The usual medical disclaimer. Ask your doctor first if you are well enough to exercise.]

I've given this book out as gifts to friends who claim they don't have the time to workout. They became fans.

Fifteen minutes may not seem enough after you have made it a habit.

Enjoy. Wish you a lifetime of fitness. In the end, it's the health of your body that matters more than anything.
