  • I can’t believe I have to go home to Nebraska for my sister’s wedding. I’m gonna need a wingman and a whole lot of vodka for this level of family interaction. At least my bestie agreed he’d man up and help. Too bad he had to catch a different flight than me. Then his plane got delayed. And finally—because bad things always happen in threes—instead of my best friend, his evil twin strolls out of the airport. If you looked up doesn’t-deserve-to-be-that-confident, way-too-hot-for-his-own-good billionaire in the dictionary, you’d find a picture of Will Holt. He’s awful. Horrible. The worst—even if his butt looks phenomenal in those jeans.Ten times worse? My buffer was supposed to be there to keep me
  • away
  • from the million and one family events. But Satan’s spawn just grins and signs us up for every. Single. Thing.Fine. “Cutthroat” Scrabble? I’m in. When the wrong twin shows up to be the knight in shining armor...you know it will be amazing!

The Wedding Date Disaster by Avery Flynn was EVERYTHING I needed it to be and more! I laughed, I sighed, I tried to reach into the story to smack characters upside the head when they weren't listening to me; it was a thoroughly enjoyable and engaging reading experience!

Hadley is feisty, charming, hilarious, and absolutely someone I'd love to be friends with!

And then we have Will. Charming evil twin Will that I can't help but love from first meeting!

And we are thrown right into the middle of things. Meet cute? More like meet explosion! And that palpable chemistry continues to sizzle throughout the rest of the story, really adding to their stubbornness, their animosity, but most importantly, their connection.

Miscommunications, family antics, and car trips galore, Hadley and Will had me hooked!

Avery is a QUEEN of the romantic comedy, and this novel was just another example of her expertise! The ache in my side from laughing and snorting are definitely exhibits A and B I'd like to submit into evidence! So, if you're looking for something that will make you chuckle, will make you smile, and be a perfect and wonderful escape from reality, look no further and dive into this lovely story now!

P. S. Loved seeing the Hartigan name pop up!

P. P. S. I do sincerely hope we'll be getting Web's story!

Disaster

Either the author wrote this in sections months apart or she gave the assignment to a class in remedial writing. Parts of the book didn’t fit. Grandma died in chapter 4 and then she appears later jet-setting around the world living the life of the 1%. We never met this gem of a human being. There were whole hyphenated sentences trying to convey humor (?) or some kind of mindset that just plain got monotonous. We finally quit dealing with that and entered the copulation portion of our plot while adding a 3-legged fox with racing stripes. The dialogue was so far apart that I had to back up to make any sense of the response. The one bright spot was the epilogue where the characters sprouted personalities and participate in a rousing game of scrabble. No, I wouldn't recommend this unless it was free, which would give you the satisfaction of throwing it across the room (book) or deleting it from your reader.

Avery Flynn is becoming a favorite

You know how you get those authors that advertise a new book and you just hit the preorder tab without thinking about because you like their stories. Well, Avery Flynn has quickly become one of mine. I was introduced to her stories thru a book called “Butterface,” and I liked it so much I bought the next book in the series. Then I went back and bought the Hartigan series, and I like her White Knights Hockey league stories. She is just a good story teller and I like that she writes about women who really struggle with their lives and eventually find their happily ever afters.

Hadley has a love/hate relationship with twins Web and Will Holt. Web is her best friend and she loves him as a really good friend. Yes, men and women CAN be just really good friends. Well, Web’s twin brother Will, just doesn’t believe that it’s possible for Web and Hadley to be just really good friends. And he has decided that he needs to protect his brother from the “gold digger” Hadley. So there’s the hate relationship, needless to say, hate can ride a very thin line to love. Sometimes bullheaded men just have problems realizing that sometimes the girl you “hate” is actually a girl you are really secretly in love with yourself and that “hate” may just be jealousy because the girl is really good friends with your brother.

Will They or Won’t They?

Avery Flynn’s The Wedding Date Disaster is a mildly entertaining but far too repetitive “will they or won’t they?” happily ever after novel. Featuring the hate to love romance of Hadley Donavan and Will Holt, and filled with Hadley’s huge extended family, the book is cute but also tiresome as the friction between Hadley and Will continues on just a bit too long. I enjoyed many members of Hadley’s family, most notably her grandfather PawPaw, who is a hoot. There are positive messages to be found about family and honesty, which I appreciated. There is also a fair amount of hot sex, so if that is not a reader’s cup of tea, best to skip this one. I am probably older than the target audience for this novel, so I will bump up my personal two star opinion to three stars.
I was given a copy of this book by NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review. I was not required to write a positive review and the opinions stated are solely my own.

Unhappy Reader

I did not even get past the first few pages. Just way too much unnecessary swearing and offensive language from the get go. I do not mind a few swear words if the context allows, but the character is created as somebody who wants to break into consulting for charitable organizations and the language and internal dialogue seems out of character. Was looking for an interesting love hate romance, got a high school locker room, trash talk disappointment.

Coulda been good

This book suffers from the quality of great premise right poorly executed or I just hate the heroine. It’s just terrible I mean it’s just terrible . There really wasn’t a buildup I didn’t feel invested in the characters it felt very service-level and dry and predictable to be honest do you know.

didn't like the main characters

this had a lot of promise and I was all in in the beginning but it started to spiral down somewhere in the middle. will was not a good character. I was hoping that he would get better throughout the book and he really didn't. Hadley wasn't much better. However, they did have great banter and chemistry. Their jabs at each other in the beginning were too good. unfortunately, by the end, i wasn't even rooting for them.

Not her best

I like Avery Flynn a lot even though she is definitely formulaic, but this one was all formula and no heart (other than PawPaw). It felt like she was phoning this one in.

Not Up To Par

Sorry Ms. Flynn, Interesting plot but it was unfortunately wasted. I wanted so much more from this book, particularly because I've read other books by this author which were delightful to read. This book lacked passion, it lacked the necessary flaw/tension/dilemma that makes romance novels interesting/worth reading. Such a shame to have such great possibilities fall flat. This one was tough to finish.

fun contemporary romance

adley has become so used to glossing over the truth of her life to her family and friends that Will Holt thinks she's a gold digger with her sights on his twin brother. Will's past betrayal make it difficult for him to see Hadley for the genuine person she can be. A wild and crazy week before her sister's wedding, where his twin brother tricks Will into swapping places, opens his eyes like never before. Sparks fly in the Wedding Date Disaster, along with lots of fun and shenanigans from Hadley's family. Looking forward to seeing more of the Donovans and Holts in future books (fingers crossed)!
