Final Siege (Love Over Duty, 2)

Mac and Delaney were madly in love until Delaney's brother also Mac's best friend died 14 years ago. She blamed him for his brother's death. Ever since his funeral, Delaney never contacted Mac and Mac decided to give up once she didn't return her calls.
While Mac was celebrating his friend's birthday, he gets a phone call from Munich hospital and Delaney is asking for Mac. He never thought he would face her again but not this way. When he saw her in the hospital, it brought all of the emotion back to him. He wanted to be there for her again just like old days. Yet he wasn't sure how Delaney would react.
Delaney never thought she was asking for Mac while she was injured. She wasn't ready to face Mac but she needed his help to get back to state and continuing to research.
They are back in the states but Delaney did not have a place to go and Mac was offering his place. She wanted to stay couple days until her living situation was settled. She wanted to get back out there where the news was happening but she couldn't until she was fully healed.
While Delaney was staying with Mac, it was difficult to keep their feelings inside since he is just couple feet away. And they are crazy for each other. Mac is trying his best to wait for Delaney but it is becoming more and more difficult. Not only Mac wants to protect her, he wants to be her everything again. What will they choose this time? Her brother's death hanging over their heads and trouble follows Delaney around.
Everything Delaney has been researching is closely related to Louisa's case (1st book). This time threats come close to their office.
Suspense is until the end and it is not over yet.
This one was good as first one and it had different take on 2nd chances with suspense. Can't wait to read the next one.

Romantic Suspense, with duo-POV. A lot of action and suspense.

Book 2 of a series. I read as a stand-alone. I understood everything but got intrigued enough to wanting to go back and read book 1.

Great hero, not very likable heroine. Really amazing plot and good setting.

WHAT HAS REALLY WORKED FOR ME

Addictiveness: This was a fast-paced thriller that kept me guessing until the end. Fast read that could be done in one sitting.
Character: hero 5/5, heroine 3/5, secondary characters 5/5, growth 4/5, real 4/5 OMG! Mac is perfect! That man is everything you wish for a book-boyfriend and a real one too. Mac's friends are great characters. I've enjoyed their friendship and camaraderie.
Cover: art 4/5, title 4/5, subtitle 4/5, color-font 4/5, buy 5/5 This is a great cover. It tells us is a military romance with a hot male. I like the title and subtitles. Also the color and font is very tasteful. I would buy this book without reading the blurb.
Freshness: Really fresh. This story was so full of twists that kept me on my toes always guessing. It didn't feel old, it felt different from everything else out there.
Plot: believable 4/5, conflict 5/5, dialogue 5/5, ending 5/5, enjoyment 5/5, opening 5/5, pace 5/5, setting 5/5, subplots 5/5, twists 5/5 This plot is amazing. So well written with lots of action and suspense. At the same time with a good romance that grows accordingly, doesn't feel rushed. Superb ending!!!
Romance: believable 5/5, chemistry 5/5, description 5/5, development 3/5, steam 3/5 Their love for each other is undeniable from the beginning. There was a lot of hurt and misguided feeling to overcome. I think Delaney took too long to get finally on board, but this takes off more from my dislike of her than by how the romance was developed. Kudos to Mac for being so patient.
Writing Style: Amazing! Phenomenal plot with exceptional hero. Everything very cohesive with a meaning to the story. Nothing was there without a reason. This plot is so good that I can even forget my totally dislike of the heroine.

WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER

Characters: Now, Delaney and I had a hard relationship. I will give her kudos for being the type of girl who goes after, not waiting for a man to solve all her problems (even though there was a couple TSTL moments). But that's all the good I found in her. For the rest, she acted like a child, having a hard time listening and being mature. Yes, she had some misguided info from the past, but past time to move on or at least listen to all the facts. She did show a good growth by the end of the book, but it took too long for me to connect with her.

MY THOUGHTS

I haven't read the first book of the series, but I'm looking forward to correct this mistake. Also, I'm very intrigue about Cabe's story.

I had to take out a star because of Delaney. If Mac wasn't so amazing, I probably would have given up this story with my total dislike of the heroine's actions.

Would I re-read this book? I don't know. Only because Delaney made me almost throw my kindle a few times. I'm afraid I will end breaking it. :)

Would I read more from the author? I love Ms. Cole's writing and I will read anything she writes.

This story is a story about losing one of the important people in your life and finding hard to cope with grief. That's why Delany doesn't lose just her brother but also her friends and one true love. After years apart she meets Mac again on foreign soil all broken and beaten. She doesn't recall but her subconscious had him called. Mac didn't expect to ever see Delaney again especially not under these circumstances. And now that she is in his life again he makes everything in his power that she stays. But the journey is difficult full of old resentment and pain. It is intense story emotionally and situational because Delany is not finished with her research yet and of course because her job is becoming dangerous Mac will do anything to help her and protect her. I liked Mac, he is a strong character likable. I didn't like Delaney to much she was ok but I really didn't like hatred toward Mac you could really feel the resentment and she delivery fought against all the good that Mac did for her.

15 years ago, a tragedy torned Mac and Delaney apart. She needs to forget about him and move on and he keeps hoping for her to give him another while knowing he's to blame. But when Delaney is danger, Mac is the first person she calls.

This is the kind of book that makes you want to hug the characters and tell them everything will be alright. I understood where each caracther was coming from with their pain and doubts and I couldn't blame them or get impatient. They have gone through so much they needed to move at their own time and the pace was perfect for the story.

Mac is such an amazing guy. Strong and determined. Super sexy and caring. He would do anything for Delaney. Even when she doesn't want help, he puts her over everything else, including his work. But he never treats her as a damsel in distress he makes sure she has ways of protecting herself.

Delaney is my kind of heroine. She needs no one, she knows what she wants and is not afraid to go after it and honestly? her job as a reporter is something i always looked up to so she gets bonus points for that. Delaney is also the biggest issue in her and Mac relationship, because she's not ready to let the past go and won't let herself to see where they could go.

Final Siege is a great combination of second chance love, drama and action. Delaney's life is in danger but so is her heart and in the middle of finding out who wants her dead, she and Mac need to figure out what is left of their relationship and if they can continue.
The chemestry between Mac and Delaney is still there, palpable but their heads aren't. Reading their story was a great experience and I can't wait to see more about the men at Eagle Securities.

I’m in love. Mac is my new book boyfriend, and I’m not giving him back! You gotta love a man who knows what he wants and does everything in his power to get it. *Swoons* But there’s tons of history there and somehow Mac and Delaney have to wade through it all and hopefully come out on the other side unscathed. Cole hinted at this story in the first novel of the Love Over Duty series. Based on the few hints of background we got in that novel, I was excited to read Final Siege, and I wasn’t disappointed! I didn’t love Delaney, but I liked her well enough. She seemed at times childish to me, but, then again, I’m an old lady compared to her. *Sighs*

Although I loved the story and recommend it to anyone who enjoys romantic suspense, I’m giving an overall rating of four stars. The abrupt changes of scene mid-chapter were jarring. I also thought the big secret wasn’t the big deal it was built up to be. I could overlook those aspects, but I’m a stickler for detail and a few of the military aspects were unrealistic.

I didn’t mind this book. A little slow at the start but well worth the read. Strong characters with a strong plot line full of drama, excitement and romance

I hate to write this but this is another romantic suspense military romance story that fall in the its ok but I don't think I will read it again.
The characters were not well developed and many times it felt like the author was writing a story around sex scenes.
I loved the idea of a report and former seal but this story has been done many times over and much better.
The female lead Delaney did what I hate and did the opposite of everything her hero\love interest asked her not to do many times. Leaving this reader wanting to yell at my ebook.
There was some editing that could clean up a little confusion but all in all it was a so so Romantic Suspense book.

Easy read with an Alpha but very sweet hero and a journalist heroine.
I liked the second-chance romance, even if the premise felt, not necessarily weak, but perhaps a bit far-fetched, since 14 years seems too much to keep that kind of secret. But, in a way, it’s understandable; and the grief dimension was solidly handled, even I started missing the deceased brother, Brock, what a lovely character he would be.
I also liked the camaraderie and friendship between the male and female characters, enjoyed less the countless sex scenes or the bragging about each other’s physical prowess and found the heroine a bit naïve sometimes (for example, her obsession with the Pulitzer Prize).

Once again Scarlett Cole does an amazing job with her newest romantic suspense book Final Siege. She continually keeps you on your edge waiting to see what will happen next and then the sexual tension between the two main characters pulls you in. They have a great dynamic together and the entire time you are hoping that Delaney will give just a little to let Max back in. She also knows just how to pull in the other characters so you know what’s going on with them without being over powered with their stories. If you are looking for your next romantic suspense book Final Siege is your book.

Mac has been in love with Delaney for years but that all changed when her brother dies and Mac was to blame. But when Delaney is hurt, she asks for Mac.

When they are thrust back into each other’s lives they both have different ideas, Mac feels like this is his chance to win her back where Delaney feels like she needs to stop this reunion before she gets hurt.

But soon Delaney realizes that her trouble might have followed her and Mac might be the only one who can help her. Will they be able to put aside their differences and help each other? Or is the past too much to overcome?
