Happy Birthday, Bad Kitty (paperback black-and-white edition)

I don't write book reviews very often but these books are the best!! Bad Kitty is hilarious and my daughter can't get enough. They are the first chapter books my first grader has wanted to read on her own. They are beyond her level and she does need help but every time she picks one up she gets better and better. Happy Birthday Bad Kitty is where we are introduced to Chatty Kitty which is my daughter's favorite character. Therefore it is the one I am reviewing....five stars for sure. The whole family loves these books! Even my husband laughs at Bad Kitty's antics.

We bought this series per a recommendation for my almost 5 year old, who is reading, but not quite at this level, so this was a read-aloud book for us (as in, I read it to my child). It's funny enough, but not hysterical, like some of the other reviews indicated; and I'm not without a good sense of humor myself. Maybe this is just not my type of humor. It's a tedious book to read out loud - my child found it only somewhat amusing (and she also has a great sense of humor) and wanted me to skip certain pages after a while (unlike her, she eats up most books). I realize the rating is for ages 5 and up but I doubt the few months to my child's birthday would make the difference of her liking it or not. It also might be more enjoyable if the child were reading it to him/herself - it's almost a comic book style. This series is not for us, but it is for the child who enjoys a more slap-stick style of humor.

It's cover is dirty and damaged!

My seven year old loves these books. They make a good transition from the Level number books to chapter books. They offer a few pictures to break up the text. Humorous and entertaining. Be warned though, if your child is on a third grade level or higher, they will consume this book in about an hour.

You can take the above sentence at face value. My 10 yo son loves all the "Wimpy Kid" books but also really enjoys the inimitable 'Bad Kitty' (between his dad's house and mine we have 11). However, more importantly in this instance, I was able to help my 72 yo mother other this as a bday present for my older son online and, what do you know, she got to wrap it herself before Christmas. I am trying to help her get more comfortable with buying online....and would only set her loose on sites I myself implicitly trust. Amazon is the gold standard as far as I'm concerned, and if I can get a non-content-related item of merchandise on Amazon, for equal or ever a lower price, I am one Happy Kitty.

I give this book 4 stars because my daughter adores it, but this is not the best of the books in the Bad Kitty series. Nevertheless, it follows the precedent set by the other books and is a fun, charming, and informative read.

I told myself I would not buy graphic novels for my children as it would make it more difficult for them to read regular books. Then my daughter fell in love with this series. She is on the verge of crossing the line from early reader books like Frog and Toad, Little Bear, and Henry and Mudge to chapter books like Magic Tree House and this is an excellent way to encourage her to read more and build her reading stamina while having fun.

On a side note, this books makes me very happy that Bad Kitty does not live with us!

My 8 year old requested this book foe his 8th bday, he has read it many a times over the last couple months

Was really excited to get this book for our son's birthday and was disappointed to learn the book was in black and white; I would have ordered the hardback if I would have known that.

arrived in good shipping condition. i love bad kitty as do my preschool students, i thought this was more colorful, so disappointed about that, but love bad kitty, entertaining and appropriate and learning for children.
