Good read: The Heir

After I understood Bab's play on the modern day Plantagenet and Tudor historical dynasty, which happened in the middle of the first book (even though she gave a hint - slow on the uptake), I loved the second book, the Heir, when Henry VIII (Harry) comes into the storyline. Can't wait to read Being Elizabeth, the sequel.

but did enjoy it at the start

I got this book on CD to listen to while I sew. I had not read any of the other in this series, but did enjoy it at the start. As the story went on, I started to lose interest and only continued listening because it was a distraction while I sewed. If I had actually been reading this, I would have stopped. I kept waiting for some sort of a plot; it just went on and on. What drove me nuts is towards the end when Harry Turner, Edward's grandson, came of age. We all know Harry is another name for Henry. Harry married Katherine (of Spanish descent). He falls in love with Anne and wants a divorce. Katherine won't give him one as she is a Catholic. Very quickly I realized this was the story of Henry the 8th!!! All the names were the same - Katherine, Anne, Jane, Elizabeth, Edward - and the outcome of those characters was very similar. Poor excuse for a story line. Won't be listening or reading any more!

Don't bother

I've always been a fan of this author, but this book leaves a lot to be desired. It is basically a modern day version of King Henry VIII and his wives, the pursuit of a son. I love British history and have read many books about the Tudors with great story intrigue and character development. This novel really wasn't worth my time and money.

My mother loved this novel and the entire Ravenscar trilogy

I purchased this book for my mother, and cannot say I've read it myself, as romance novels aren't really my preference. I do know my mother absolutely loved this book and the entire Ravenscar trilogy; so much so that she's recommended it to her friends and to other family members.

The Heir

I have read all three books in this series and thoroughly enjoyed them, tho the first was a little hard to follow for awhile. A surprising new writing for Barbara Taylor Bradford but well worth the read. Once you start you're hooked!

The Heir

This was a fun follow up to the Ravenscar Dynasty. I like triologies and look forward to reading the next book in the series, Elizabeth. It was a great escape, full of illicit passion, cowardly betrayals and family struggles.

Thank you all!

I want to thank all of the previous reviewers for saving me a lot of time! I gave up on BTB long ago, but picked this up on a whim in my used book store. I am now on page 51 and already disgruntled with this book. For one thing, I did not realize this was the 2nd book in a trilogy or I never would have bought it. I figured it out when they were talking about events and people that came before, and it was assumed that the reader knew what they were talking about. I really hate that. I really don't think BTB has written a decent book since a Woman of Substance, which was one of my favorites. Certainly the sequels were not good. So, this book goes on the shelf designated for trading back in. Thanks again to everyone!
